Claims
- 1. A process for preparing an emulsion-containing cementitious slurry comprising:
- preparing an emulsion having an oil external phase and aqueous internal phase, said internal phase comprising water and an additive for said cementitious slurry; and
- combining said emulsion with blast furnace slag and an aqueous drilling fluid.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein said blast furnace slag and drilling fluid are first combined and thereafter said emulsion is added.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein said aqueous internal phase also contains a dissolved salt.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein said additive is an activator.
- 5. A method according to claim 4 wherein said activator comprises sodium hydroxide and wherein a surfactant is used to prepare the emulsion, said surfactant is present in an amount of 0.001 to 10 wt. percent based on the weight of water in the aqueous phase of the emulsion.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 wherein said oil is diesel, mineral or vegetable oil.
- 7. A method according to claim 1 wherein said drilling fluid is a water base drilling fluid containing clay and wherein a surfactant is used to prepare the emulsion.
- 8. A method according to claim 7 wherein said blast furnace slag and drilling fluid are first confined and thereafter said emulsion is added, said aqueous phase of said emulsion contains 0.1 to 26 wt % sodium chloride based on the weight of said aqueous phase, and said additive comprises sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate and is present in an amount of 2 to 70 pounds of additive per barrel of cementitious slurry.
- 9. A cementitious slurry comprising:
- drilling fluid;
- blast furnace slag and an emulsion having an oil external phase and an aqueous internal phase, said aqueous internal phase comprising water and an additive for said cementitious slurry.
- 10. A composition according to claim 9 wherein said blast furnace slag is water quenched blast furnace slag having a particle size such that it exhibits a Blaine specific surface area within the range of 4,000 to 7,000 cm.sup.2 /g.
- 11. A composition according to claim 10 wherein said blast furnace slag is present in an amount sufficient to give 100 to 500 lbs of said blast furnace slag per barrel of said cementitious slurry.
- 12. A composition according to claim 9 wherein said additive is an activator for said blast furnace slag.
- 13. A composition according to claim 12 wherein said activator comprises a mixture of 2 to 6 lbs/bbl of caustic soda and 2 to 50 lbs/bbl of soda ash.
- 14. A composition according to claim 9 wherein said oil is diesel, mineral, or vegetable oil.
- 15. A composition according to claim 10 wherein said aqueous phase of said emulsion comprises seawater and wherein said drilling fluid contains seawater as an aqueous phase thereof.
