The present application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. § 119 (a) to Korean patent application number 10-2023-0078738 filed on Jun. 20, 2023, in the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated by reference herein.
The present disclosure relates to an energy storage apparatus. In addition, the present disclosure relates to an energy storage system including the energy storage apparatus.
Recently, demand for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs, and wireless earphones is increasing. In addition, as the development of electric vehicles, batteries for energy storage, robots, and satellites is carried out in a full scale, research is being actively conducted on high-performance secondary batteries that can be repeatedly charged and discharged, as an energy source.
Currently commercialized secondary batteries include nickel cadmium batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, nickel zinc batteries, and lithium secondary batteries. Among these, lithium secondary batteries have the advantage of having almost no memory effect compared to nickel-based secondary batteries, and so they can be freely charged and discharged, have a very low self-discharge rate, and have high energy density.
An energy storage system (ESS) is a system that stores produced energy (e.g. electric power) in a storage apparatus and supplies the stored energy when needed.
The energy storage apparatus can store, for example, electric power. Generally, the energy storage apparatus may include one or more battery modules to store electric power, and the battery module may be accommodated in a rack structure included in the energy storage apparatus.
Meanwhile, to simplify the structure and reduce the number of components used, a so-called cell-to-rack type of energy storage apparatus is on the rise, as battery cells are directly accommodated in a rack structure of the apparatus rather than battery cells are manufactured into a battery module which is then accommodated in a rack structure. However, such a cell-to-rack type energy storage apparatus has problems in that it is difficult to manage the heat generated from the battery cells and the apparatuses are vulnerable to vibration or external shock.
An object of the present disclosure is to provide an energy storage apparatus that makes it easier to manage the heat generated from a battery cell and that improves the problem of being vulnerable to vibration or external shock.
Another object of the present disclosure is to provide an energy storage apparatus in which a heat dissipation medium can more easily recover the heat generated from a battery cell, through a unique structure.
Still another object of the present disclosure is to provide an energy storage apparatus that is capable of accommodating one or more battery cells and that continuously applies pressure to at least one surface of the battery cells to stabilize the charge/discharge lifetime and cycle and extend the lifetime of the battery cells.
In addition, the battery cell of the present disclosure can be widely applied in the field of electric vehicles, battery charging stations, and green technology, such solar power generation, and wind power generation using batteries. In addition, the battery cell of the present disclosure can be used in eco-friendly electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, etc. to prevent climate change by suppressing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, a state of direct contact may mean a state in which two objects are physically in direct contact with each other in at least some regions. In addition, a state of indirect contact may mean a state in which a heat medium material is positioned between two objects and heat is transferred through the heat medium material. In addition, the convection may mean forced convection by the fluid C.
Specifically, the heat generated from a battery cell 200 accommodated in the accommodating space 112 may be heat-transferred to a fluid C passing through the internal passage 121 due to forced convection. This case may be referred to as thermal contact in a state of direct contact.
