Claims
- 1. An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising: a polynucleotide sequence, or the full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence is selected from the group consisting of:(a) a polynucleotide consisting of a nucleotide sequence encoding SEQ ID NO:2; and, (b) a nucleic acid sequence identical to the polynucleotide of (a) except that, over the entire length corresponding to the polynucleotide of (a), up to five nucleotides are substituted, deleted or inserted for every 100 nucleotides of the polynucleotide of (a); wherein said polynucleotide sequence or said full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence is not genomic DNA and wherein the polynucleotide sequence detects Staphylococcus aureus by hybridization.
- 2. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 1.
- 3. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 2.
- 4. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 1, wherein said polynucleotide sequence is identical to the polynucleotide of (a) except that, over the entire length corresponding to the polynucleotide of (a), up to three nucleotides are substituted, deleted or inserted for every 100 nucleotides of the polynucleotide of (a).
- 5. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 1, wherein said polynucleotide sequence is the polynucleotide of (a).
- 6. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 5.
- 7. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 6.
- 8. An isolated polynucleotide segment, comprising a polynucleotide sequence, or the full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence is selected from the group consisting of(a) a polynucleotide which encodes the same mature polypeptide, expressed by the Fibronectin Binding Protein gene expressed by a nucleic acid sequence comprising SEQ ID NO:1 contained in Staphylococcus aureus WCUH 29 contained in NCIMB Deposit No. 40771; and, (b) a nucleic acid sequence identical to the polynucleotide of (a) except that, over the entire length corresponding to the polynucleotide of (a), up to five nucleotides are substituted, deleted or inserted for every 100 nucleotides of the polynucleotide of (a); wherein the polynucleotide sequence or the full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence is not genomic DNA.
- 9. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 6.
- 10. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 9.
- 11. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 8, wherein said polynucleotide sequence is identical to the polynucleotide of (a) except that, over the entire length corresponding to the polynucleotide of (a), up to three nucleotides are substituted, deleted or inserted for every 100 nucleotides of the polynucleotide of (a).
- 12. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 6, wherein said polynucleotide sequence is the polynucleotide of (a).
- 13. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 12.
- 14. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 13.
- 15. A polynucleotide which encodes a fusion polypeptide and which includes the isolated polynucleotide segment according to claim 12.
- 16. An isolated polynucleotide segment, comprising a polynucleotide sequence or the full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence hybridizes to the full complement of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the hybridization conditions comprise incubation at 42° C. in a solution comprising: 50% formamide, 5× SSC (150mM NaCl, 15mM trisodium citrate), 50 mM sodium phosphate (pH7.6), 5× Denhardt's solution, 10% dextran sulfate, and 20 micrograms/ml denatured, sheared salmon sperm DNA, followed by washing in 0.1× SSC at about 65° C.; wherein the polynucleotide sequence or said full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence is not genomic DNA.
- 17. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 16, wherein the polynucleotide sequence is identical to SEQ ID NO:1 except that, over the entire length corresponding to SEQ ID NO:1, up to five nucleotides are substituted, deleted or inserted for every 100 nucleotides of SEQ ID NO: 1.
- 18. The isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 16 wherein said polynucleotide sequence is identical to SEQ ID NO:1 except that, over the entire length corresponding to SEQ ID NO:1, up to three nucleotides are substituted, deleted or inserted for every 100 nucleotides of SEQ ID NO: 1.
- 19. An isolated polynucleotide segment, comprising a polynucleotide sequence or the full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence, wherein the polynucleotide sequence encodes a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2; wherein the polynucleotide sequence or said full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence is not genomic DNA.
- 20. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 19.
- 21. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 20.
- 22. A process for producing a polypeptide, comprising culturing the host cell of claim 21 under conditions sufficient for the production of the polypeptide, wherein the polypeptide comprises SEQ ID NO:2.
- 23. An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a polynucleotide sequence which encodes a polypeptide consisting of the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2; wherein the polynucleotide sequence or said full complement of the entire length of the polynucleotide sequence is not genomic DNA.
- 24. A vector comprising the isolated polynucleotide segment of claim 23.
- 25. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 24.
- 26. A process for producing a polypeptide, comprising culturing the host cell of claim 25 under conditions sufficient for the production of the polypeptide, wherein the polypeptide consists of SEQ ID NO:2.
