Claims
- 1. A filter having an upstream surface and a downstream surface having pores providing liquid conduits interconnecting said upstream and said downstream surfaces for liquid passage from one of said surfaces to the other,
- said pores having a pore size so as to preclude passage of microorganisms therethrough and so as to permit passage of liquid and air therethrough,
- wherein the downstream surface of said filter is at least partially coated with an antimicrobial material comprising a combination of a polycationic polymeric material and a bacteriostatic or bactericidal metallic material comprising a metal salt, and
- wherein said filter further is at least partially coated within a plurality of said pores with said antimicrobial material.
- 2. The filter of claim 1 wherein said metal salt is silver halide.
- 3. The filter of claim 2 wherein the silver halide is silver iodide.
- 4. The filter of claim 1 wherein said filter is at least partially coated on the upstream surface with said antimicrobial material.
- 5. The filter of claim 1 wherein the polycationic polymeric material is polyhexamethylene biguanide.
