Claims
- 1. A fluorinated multifunctional alcohol having at least 3 primary hydroxyl groups.
- 2. The multifunctional alcohol of claim 1 having the following formula:
- 3. The multifunctional alcohol of claim 2 wherein Rf has a molecular weight of at least 25 % of the molecular weight of the alcohol.
- 4. The multifunctional alcohol of claim 2 wherein Rf is selected from the group containing the following structures:
- 5. The multifunctional alcohol of claim 2 wherein each R1 and R2 contains at least 1 ester group.
- 6. The multifunctional alcohol of claim 5 having the structure of:
- 7. The multifunctional alcohol of claim 2 wherein each R1 and R2 contains at least 1 amide group.

- 9. A fluorinated multifunctional crosslinker having the structure of:
- 10. The fluorinated multifunctional crosslinker of claim 9 wherein Rf has a molecular weight of at least 25% of the molecular weight of the crosslinker molecule.
- 11. A fluorinated multifunctional acrylate prepared from the fluorinated multifunctional alcohol of claim 1 having at least 3 acrylate groups.
- 12. A fluorinated multifunctional acrylate having the structure of:
- 13. The multifunctional acrylate of claim 12 wherein Rf has a molecular weight of at least 25% of the molecular weight of the acrylate.
- 14. The multifunctional acrylate of claim 12 wherein Rf is selected from the group containing the following structures:

- 17. A coating composition comprising:
a) at least one multifunctional acrylate having the structure of (H2C═HCCOOH2C&Parenclosest;n3-R1-Rf -R2&Parenopenst;CH2OOCCH═CH2)n3 wherein Rf is a monomeric or polymeric perfluorinated alkylene, oxyalkylene, arylene, oxyarylene, and mixtures thereof; R1 and R2 are monomeric or polymeric multi-valent radicals selected from a group consisting of aromatic and aliphatic esters, ethers, amides, urethanes, and mixtures thereof; and n3 is an integer of at least 2; and b) at least one free radical initiator.
- 18. The coating composition of claim 17 wherein the free radical initiator is a photoinitiator which generates free radicals upon exposure to sufficient actinic radiation.
- 19. A waveguide device formed by patterning a coating composition comprising:
a) at least one multifunctional acrylate having the structure of: (H2C═HCCOOH2C&Parenclosest;n3-R1-Rf -R2&Parenopenst;CH2OOCCH═CH2)n3 wherein Rf is a monomeric or polymeric perfluorinated alkylene, oxyalkylene, arylene, oxyarylene, and mixtures thereof; R1 and R2 are monomeric or polymeric multi-valent radicals selected from a group consisting of aromatic and aliphatic esters, ethers, amides, urethanes, and mixtures thereof; and n3 is an integer of at least 2; and b) at least one free radical initiator.
- 20. The waveguide device of claim 19 wherein the free radical initiator is a photoinitiator which generates free radicals upon exposure to sufficient actinic radiation.
