Claims
- 1. A fluoroaliphaticsulfonyl ethylene compound especially suited as a catalyst in epoxide, vinyl ether, and N-vinyl monomer polymerization and having the formula
- wherein R.sub.f is a monovalent saturated fluoroaliphatic radical; X is a monovalent, non-ionic, electron withdrawing radical at least as electron withdrawing as a benzoyl radical; Z is amino, dialkylamino,
- 2. The compound of claim 1 wherein X is SO.sub.2 R'.sub.f wherein R'.sub.f
- 3. A process comprising contacting monomer selected from the group consisting of epoxides, vinyl ethers, and N-vinyl compounds with a catalytic amount of the compound of claim 1 to effect polymerization of

A fluoroaliphaticsulfonyl ethylene compound especially suited as a catalyst in epoxide, vinyl ether, and N-vinyl monomer polymerization and having the formula ##STR15## wherein R.sub.f is a monovalent saturated fluoroaliphatic radical; X is a monovalent, non-ionic, electron withdrawing radical at least as electron withdrawing as a benzoyl radical, and Z is amino, dialkylamino, or alkylamino.
- 6. The compound of claim 5 wherein X is SO.sub.2 R'.sub.f wherein R'.sub.f is a monovalent saturated fluoroaliphatic radical.
- 7. The compound of claim 6 wherein R'.sub.f and R.sub.f are perfluoroaliphatic radicals having 1 to 18 carbon atoms.
- 8. The compound of claim 7 wherein R'.sub.f and R.sub.f are perfluoromethyl groups.
- 9. A process comprising contacting monomers selected from the group consisting of epoxides, vinyl ethers, and N-vinyl compounds with a catalytic amount of the compound of claim 5 to effect polymerization of said monomer.
