Claims
- 1. A compound having the structure ##STR154## wherein R.sub.11 is --OR.sub.12, SR.sub.12, halogen, --NHOH, or --NR.sub.12 R.sub.13 ; each of R.sub.12 and R.sub.13 is independently hydrogen; an alphatic or an aromatic group, optionally substituted with at least one group selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, alkoxy, halo, nitro, amino, thiol, alkylthio, carboxyl, alkoxycarbonyl, and phenyl; a C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 aliphatic amine, optionally substituted with at least one group selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, alkoxy, halo, nitro, amino, thiol, alkylthio, carboxyl, alkoxycarbonyl, and phenyl; or a C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 aliphatic carboxylic acid, optionally substituted with at least one group selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, alkoxy, halo, nitro, amino, thiol, alkythio, carboxyl, alkoxycarbonyl, and phenyl; or R.sub.12 and R.sub.13 taken together with the N or R.sub.11 are a protein amino acid or a cyclic group selected from the group consisting of morpholine, piperidine, piperazine, or pyrrolidine, optionally substituted with at least one group selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, alkoxy, halo, nitro, amino, thiol, alkylthio, carboxyl, alkoxycarbonyl, and phenyl; or an agronomically acceptable salt thereof.
- 2. The compound of claim 1 which is 3,4,4-trifluoro-3-butenoic acid, an alkali metal salt thereof, the 3,4,4-trifluoro-3-butene-1-amine salt thereof, the 2-propanamine salt thereof, or the ammonium salt thereof.
- 3. The compound of claim 1 which is N,N-diethyl-3,4,4-trifluoro-3-butenamide.
- 4. The compound of claim 1 which is N-(3,4,4-trifluoro-1-oxo-3-butenyl)glycine or the 1,1-dimethylethyl ester thereof.
- 5. The compound of claim 1 which is N-(3,4,4-trifluoro-1-oxo-3-butenyl)-L-phenylalanine or the 1,1-dimethylethylester thereof.
- 6. The compound of claim 1 which is N-(3,4,4-trifluoro-1-oxo-3-butenyl)-L-asparagine or the 1,1-dimethyl ester thereof.
- 7. The compound of claim 1 which is N-(2-aminoethyl)-3,4,4-trifluoro-3-butenamide or the hydrochloride salt thereof.
- 8. A compound of claim 1 which is the alkali metal salt, 3,4,4-trifluoro-3-butene-1-amine salt, 2-propanamine salt or ammonium salt thereof.
- 9. The compound of claim 2 which is the alkali metal salt thereof.
- 10. The compound of claim 2 which is the 3,4,4-trifluoro-3-butene-1-amine salt thereof.
- 11. The compound of claim 2 which is the 2-propanamine salt thereof.
- 12. The compound of claim 2 which is the ammonium salt thereof.
- 13. The compound of claim 4 which is N-(3,4,4-trifluoro-1-oxo-3-butenyl)glycine.
- 14. A composition for controlling nematode, insect, or acarid infestation of a plant comprising an effective amount of a compound of claim 1 in an agronomically acceptable carrier.
- 15. A composition of claim 14 wherein the compound is N-(3,4,4-trifluoro-1-oxo-3-butenyl)glycine, the 1,1-dimethylethyl ester thereof or an agronomically acceptable salt thereof.
- 16. A method of systemically controlling nematode, insect or acarid infestation of a plant, comprising applying to a plant locus an effective amount of a compound having the structure ##STR155## wherein R is a group that has or is transformed after application to have a polarity providing phloem mobility without reducing infestation controlling effectiveness.
- 17. A method of claim 16 wherein R is hydrogen, a protein amino acid or any agronomically acceptable salt thereof;
- 18. A method of claim 17 wherein R is a glycine or L-phenylalanine or L-asparagine or any agronomically acceptable salt thereof;
- 19. A method of claim 16 wherein the compound is N-(3,4,4-trifluoro-1-oxo-3-butenyl)glycine, the 1,1-dimethylethyl ester thereof or any agronomically acceptable salt thereof.
- 20. A method of systemically controlling nematode, insect or acarid infestation of a plant comprising applying to a plant locus an effective amount of a compound of claim 1.
- 21. A method of claim 20 wherein the compound is N-(3,4,4-trifluoro-1-oxo-3-butenyl)glycine, the 1,1-dimethylethyl ester thereof or an agronomically acceptable salt therefor.
