Claims
- 1. An agitator mounted over a conveyor belt having a surface for conveying stirred curd cheese curds, said agitator having a generally elongated blunt prong with a blunt end for agitating curds by stirring them without physically damaging them, wherein said prong has blunt surfaces that face in the direction of stirring and not sharp edges or points that face in the direction of stirring.
- 2. The agitator of claim 1, wherein said agitator has an axis of rotation that intersects the surface of the conveyor belt.
- 3. The agitator of claim 2, wherein the cheese curds have an upper surface and said axis is generally perpendicular to the upper surface of the cheese curds being agitated.
- 4. The agitator of claim 3, comprising:
- a first shaft coaxially aligned with the axis of rotation and having top and bottom ends, said top end being operably connected to a motor for rotating said first shaft;
- a generally lateral shaft having first and second ends, said bottom end of said first shaft being connected to said lateral shaft between said first and second ends of said lateral shaft, whereby said first and second ends rotate about the axis of the first shaft when it is rotated by the motor; and wherein the prong is connected to the first end of said literal shaft for rotation therewith and extends downwardly and forwardly in the direction of rotation.
- 5. An agitator adapted to be mounted in operable relation with a conveyor for conveying cheese curds, the agitator for rotatably processing the cheese curds without harming them as they travel on the conveyor, the agitator comprising:
- a first shaft having an axis that intersects the surface of the conveyor belt, an upper end and a lower end, said upper end being operably connected to a motor for rotating the first shaft;
- a second shaft having first and second ends, wherein said lower end of said first shaft is connected to said second shaft between said first and second ends of said second shaft, whereby said first and second ends rotate about the axis of the first shaft when it is rotated by the motor; and
- at least one forward prong proximally connected to each of said first and second ends of said second shaft for rotation therewith, wherein the at least one forward prongs extend downwardly and forwardly in the direction of rotation.
- 6. The agitator of claim 5, further comprising at least one rearward prong proximally connected to each of said first and second ends of said second shaft for rotation therewith and extending downwardly and rearwardly from the direction of rotation.
- 7. The agitator of claim 6, wherein the at least one forward prong has a blunt end.
- 8. The agitator of claim 7, wherein the at least one rearward prong has a blunt end.
- 9. The agitator of claim 8, wherein the second shaft is generally horizontal.
- 10. An agitator pair adapted to process cheese curds traveling along a conveyor belt, the agitator pair having first and second agitators according to the agitator of claim 5, wherein the first and second agitators are adapted to be laterally paced apart from one another across the conveyor belt.
- 11. The agitator pair of claim 10, wherein the second shafts of the first and second agitators are adapted to rotate in the same direction substantially ninety degrees out of phase from one another.
- 12. An agitator adapted to be operably positioned over a conveyor belt having a surface for conveying cheese curds, said agitator having a generally elongated prong adapted to rotate about an axis to agitate the curds, wherein the axis intersects the surface of the conveyor belt.
