Claims
- 1. A friction stir welding method comprising the steps of:detecting, using a sensor, the position of the tip of a friction stir welding tool mounted on a main shaft, so as to obtain a detected position; setting as a reference position the position obtained by adding or subtracting the length of a small-diameter portion of said tool to said detected position; and performing friction stir welding by inserting said tool into said reference position in a work object.
- 2. A friction stir welding method comprising the steps of:detecting the torque current of a motor rotating a friction stir welding tool during a friction stir welding process, so as to obtain a detected value; and controlling the depth of insertion of said friction stir welding tool into a work object based on the detected value.
- 3. A friction stir welding method comprising the steps of:detecting the torque current of a motor rotating a friction stir welding tool when inserting the friction stir welding tool into a work object, so as to obtain a detected torque current value; correcting the coordinate value of said work object based on said detected torque current value, so as to obtain a corrected value; and controlling the relative amount of movement of said friction stir welding tool relative to said work object based on the corrected value.
- 4. A friction stir welding method comprising the steps of:while inserting a friction stir welding tool into a work object, detecting a current flowing in said tool being transmitted when said tool contacts said work object, so as to obtain a detected current; correcting the coordinate value of said work object based on said detected current, so as to obtain a corrected coordinate value; and controlling the relative amount of movement of said friction stir welding tool relative to said work object based on the corrected coordinate value.
- 5. A friction stir welding method according to claim 2, wherein, when all of an edge of a large-diameter portion of the friction stir welding tool contacts the work object during the friction stir welding, a detected value of the torque current of the motor is a first value, and wherein a depth of insertion of said friction stir welding tool is controlled such that said detected value is greater than said first value.
- 6. A friction stir welding method according to claim 2, wherein said motor is an AC or DC servomotor.
- 7. A friction stir welding method according to claim 2, wherein during said friction stir welding process said friction stir welding tool moves along a joint line between two members, and the depth of insertion of said friction stir welding tool is controlled based on said detected value as said friction stir welding tool moves along said joint line.
