Claims
- 1. A method of sorbing a mixture of gases, with mixture includes hydrogen and oxygen gases, at low pressures, comprising the step of contacting said mixture of gases, including said hydrogen and oxygen gases, with a getter material which does not increase its temperature to the ignition temperature of the hydrogen-oxygen mixture of gases when gettering hydrogen; the getter material comprising an alloy of the formula: Zr.sub.1 V.sub.1 Fe.sub.1.
- 2. A method of sorbing hydrogen from a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen without exploding the mixture, comprising the steps of:
- I contacting the mixture of hydrogen and oxygen with a getter material which does not increase its temperature to the ignition temperature of the hydrogen-oxygen mixture; the getter material comprising an intermetallic compound of the formula: Zr.sub.1 V.sub.1 Fe.sub.1 ; and
- II sorbing hydrogen by the Zr.sub.1 V.sub.1 Fe.sub.1 without increasing the temperature of either the Zr.sub.1 V.sub.1 Fe.sub.1 or the mixture of hydrogen and oxygen above 230.degree. C., thereby avoiding an explosive reaction of the hydrogen with the oxygen.
