Claims
- 1. In a glassware forming machine of the type having several side-by-side sections with components operable in timed relationship to one another, each such section including a blank and blow mold station and wherein at least one such station includes generally cylindrical split mold segments individually mounted on movable mold holder means, the improvement comprising chambers defined by each of said mold holder means, means for providing cooling air to said chambers, each of said mold holder means including vertically spaced mold holder arms, middle chamber defining mold holder structure mounted between said arms, said mold holder structure having an inner wall defining nozzle openings which are oriented generally tangential to the cylindrical outside surface of said mold segments, and thereby create a circulatory flow of cooling air around the cylindrical split mold segments.
- 2. The combination defined in claim 1 wherein said mold holder arms also define portions of said chambers and wherein nozzle openings are defined in certain of said arms to direct cooling air tangentially of said generally cylindrical split mold segments.
- 3. The combination defined in claim 2 wherein said mold holder means further includes lower chamber defining structures supported from said lower mold holder arms, and sheet metal plate members wrapped around said middle and lower structures to support them from said mold holder arms, said plate members having adjacent ends defining vertically elongated vent openings for exhausting the cooling air.
- 4. The combination defined in claim 3 wherein said mold holder means further includes mold holder insert plates from which the mold segments are hung, said insert plates also defining portions of said chambers.
- 5. The combination defined in claim 1 wherein said structure between said mold holder arms more particularly comprises at least one cast member having concave cavities for cooperating with the mold exterior surfaces, and said openings comprising vertically elongated slots defined by said concave cavity defining inner wall, said slots serving to direct cooling air tangentially around said mold segments.
- 6. The combination defined in claim 2 wherein said certain mold holder arms include removable nozzle opening defining blocks, said blocks having vertically elongated slots, and said slots serving to direct cooling air tangentially around said mold segments.
- 7. The combination defined in claim 3 wherein said lower chamber defining structure has an inner wall with nozzle openings oriented to direct cooling air tangentially around the mold segments.
- 8. The combination defined in claim 4 further characterized by mold holder insert pivot pins in said mold holder arms, said pins supporting said mold holder inserts for limited floating movement in said mold holder means to accommodate slight differences in the orientation of said mold segments when they are closed.
- 9. The combination defined in claim 8 wherein said pivot pins serve to hold said arms, said inserts and said intermediate structure in assembled relation in said mold holder means.
- 10. The combination defined in claim 9 wherein said mold holder chamber defining structure comprises a plurality of stacked components held together at least in part by said wrapped plate members, said components including said mold holder arms, and mold holder inserts, said middle chamber defining structure, and spacers which also define portions of said chambers.
