Claims
- 1. An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleic acid sequence which encodes a polypeptide comprising a sequence of amino acids corresponding to the amino acid sequence set out in SEQ ID NO:3, SEQ ID NO:8 or SEQ ID NO:9, said polypeptide having the ability to stimulate vascular permeability or proliferation of endothelial cells, or a fragment thereof which has the ability to stimulate at least one biological activity selected from the group consisting of angiogenesis, vascular permeability, endothelial cell proliferation, differentiation, migration or survival.
- 2. A nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1, wherein said endothelial cells are selected from the group consisting of vascular endothelial cells and lymphatic endothelial cells.
- 3. A nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1, which is a cDNA.
- 4. A nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1, which encodes a polypeptide which has the ability to stimulate vascular permeability or proliferation of endothelial cells.
- 5. A nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1, which encodes a polypeptide comprising amino acid residues 64 through 172 of SEQ ID NO:3.
- 6. A nucleic acid molecule according to claim 5, wherein said polypeptide further comprises an affinity tag peptide sequence.
- 7. A nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1, wherein said nucleic acid molecule is a human DNA molecule.
- 8. A vector comprising a nucleic acid according to claim 1.
- 9. A host cell transformed or transfected with a vector according to claim 8.
- 10. A method of making a polypeptide, said method comprising the steps of:culturing a host cell transformed or transfected with a vector comprising a nucleic acid sequence according to claim 1, operably associated with a promoter sequence such that a polypeptide encoded by the nucleic acid sequence is expressed; and isolating said polypeptide from said host cell or from a growth medium in which said host cell is cultured.
- 11. A method of isolation of a polypeptide, said method comprising the step of exposing a cell which expresses a polypeptide encoded by a nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1, to heparin to facilitate release of the polypeptide from the cell, and recovering the thus-released polypeptide.
- 12. A method of making a vector comprising a nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1, said method comprising inserting said nucleic acid molecule into a vector in a position in which said nucleic acid molecule is operatively connected with at least one promoter.
- 13. A nucleic acid molecule which comprises the nucleic acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 4.
- 14. A nucleic acid molecule which comprises a nucleic acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, SEQ ID NO:7, and sequences complimentary to SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, or SEQ ID NO:7.
