Claims
- 1. A filter element, comprising:
a central perforated support core; a depth filter media layer wound around the support core; an end cap having an annular impervious body portion sealingly bonded to an end of the depth filter media and an end of the support core, and a central opening in the end cap allowing fluid flow into the support core; and a filter media bag receiving and enclosing the wound depth filter media and support core, the bag having a closed end and an open end, a bag ring supporting the open end of the bag, the bag ring closely receiving and surrounding the end cap, and fixed thereto.
- 2. The filter element as in claim 1, wherein the bag ring includes a radially-enlarged end portion, with notches for receiving dowel pins.
- 3. The filter element as in claim 1, wherein the bag ring includes a series of flexible, spaced-apart tabs projecting radially and axially outward at an angle from a distal end of the ring.
- 4. A filter assembly including a canister with a closed end, an open end, and inlet and outlet ports into the canister, a cover enclosing the open end of the canister, the canister including an annular seat ring, a cup-shaped bag screen supported in the canister by the seat ring, and a filter element supported in the canister, the filter element including:
a central perforated support core; a depth filter media layer connected to and wound around the support core in one or more windings; an end cap having an annular impervious body portion sealingly bonded to an end of the depth filter media and an end of the support core, and a central opening in the end cap allowing fluid flow into the support core; and a filter media bag receiving and enclosing the wound depth filter media and support core, the bag having a closed end and an open end, a bag ring supporting the open end of the bag, the bag ring closely receiving and surrounding the end cap, and fixed thereto, the bag ring closely received in an open end of the bag screen and supported thereby.
- 5. The filter assembly as in claim 4, wherein the seat ring includes radially-inward projection dowel pins, and the bag ring includes a radially-enlarged end portion, with notches for receiving the dowel pins when the notches are rotationally aligned with the dowel pins.
- 6. The filter assembly as in claim 5, wherein the seat ring includes circumferentially-extending grooves on an inner surface thereof, and the bag ring includes a series of flexible, spaced-apart tabs projecting radially and axially outward at an angle from a distal end of the ring, the end edges of the tabs cooperating and engaging with the grooves to retain the filter element in the canister, when the tabs are rotationally aligned with the grooves.
- 7. The filter assembly as in claim 6, wherein the grooves each include a circumferentially-extending locking channel portion which is engaged by the distal end edges of the tabs to retain the element in the canister; a release portion which allows the tabs to pass the seat ring so that the element can be removed from the canister; and a tapered ramp portion interconnecting the locking channel portion and the release portion.
- 8. A filter element, comprising:
a central perforated support core; a filter media layer wound around the support core in at least one winding; an end cap having an annular impervious body portion sealed to an end of the filter media and an end of the support core, and a central opening in the end cap allowing fluid flow into the support core; and a filter media bag receiving and enclosing the filter media and support core, the bag having a closed end and an open end, a bag ring supporting the open end of the bag and fixed to the end cap.
- 9. A filter element, comprising:
a filter media bag with a closed end and an opposite open end, a rigid annular bag ring supporting the open end of the bag, the bag ring including a series of flexible, spaced-apart tabs projecting radially and axially outward at an angle from a distal end of the bag ring.
- 10. A filter assembly including a canister with a closed end, an open end, and inlet and outlet ports into the canister, a cover enclosing the open end of the canister, the canister including an annular seat ring, a cup-shaped bag screen supported by the seat ring in the canister, and a filter element supported in the canister by the seat ring, the filter element including a filter media bag with a closed end and an opposite open end, a rigid annular bag ring supporting the open end of the bag, the bag ring including a series of flexible, spaced-apart tabs projecting radially and axially outward at an angle from a distal end of the bag ring, the seat ring including a series of circumferentially extending grooves on an inner surface thereof, the end edges of the tabs cooperating and engaging with the grooves to retain the filter element in the canister when the bag ring is inserted into the seat ring, and the tabs are rotationally aligned with the grooves.
