- 2. The dispenser of claim 1, wherein the first and second containers are generally cylindrical, the platen generally is circular and has a diameter that sealingly engages the containers.
- 3. The dispenser of claim 2, wherein the sealing means comprises a hinged collar, having means to sealingly fix the joint at the joint between the first housing body and the second housing body.
- 4. The dispenser of claim 3, wherein the heated platen is connected to means to dispense the hot melt adhesive to a use locus.
- 5. A container adapted for use in the dispensing of hot melt adhesive compositions which can generate a toxic concentration of a volatile isocyanate compound, which container can be used with heated platen dispensing equipment, the container comprising:
- (a) a container body having first and second open ends, wherein the first and second open ends comprise means for attachment of an open end of the container body to another open end of another container body, forming a joint that can be sealed to the escape of a toxic concentration of volatile isocyanates;
- (b) a first cover configured to enclose said first end of said container body;
- (c) a second cover configured to enclose a said second end of said container body;
- (d) moisture impervious adhesive residing on an interior portion of the first cover and the second cover such that the first cover and the second cover are securely attached to the container body;
- (e) means for fracturing said first and second cover so as to permit removal of said first cover and said second cover from said first end and said second end of said container body respectively; and
- (f) a mass of hot melt adhesive containing an isocyanate compound held within the container body, and wherein during dispensing of the hot melt adhesive from the container, the second cover remaining on an open end of the container body can be removed and a second container body can be sealingly attached to the first container body, such that the isocyanate can be dispensed by heated platens from both containers without the release of a toxic concentration of isocyanate into the atmosphere.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5, further comprising a wire, the wire residing within the moisture-impermeable adhesive, the wire having a first end extending through a side wall portion of the cover.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the first cover is formed as a circular lid, the circular lid having a cover member and a substantially perpendicular side wall member.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the cover member has a first thickness and the side wall has a second thickness, the second thickness being substantially thinner than the first thickness.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein at least a portion of the container body is coated with a silicone release lined polypropylene film.
- 10. An extendable cylindrical housing for storing and dispensing of a hot melt adhesive composition which can generate a toxic concentration of a volatile isocyanate compound, which housing can be used with heated platen dispensing equipment, the housing comprising:
- (a) a cylindrical first body having first and second open ends, wherein the first and the second open ends of the first body permit passage of a heated platen therethrough, at least one of said first and second open ends comprising means for connection to a cylindrical second body having inner and outer diameters substantially identical to inner and outer diameters of said first body to permit passage of the heated platen into the second body;
- (b) a first cover configured to enclose the first end of the first body;
- (c) a second cover configured to enclose the second end of the first body; and
- (d) a mass of hot melt adhesive containing a volatile isocyanate compound held within the first body; wherein during dispensing of the hot melt adhesive from the housing, a cover is removed from an end of the second body to form an open end and the open end of the second body cooperates with an open end of the first body to form the extended cylindrical housing having a substantially sealed junction between the first and second bodies, such that the isocyanate is dispensed by a heated platen passing through the first and second bodies without the release of a toxic concentration of isocyanate into the atmosphere.
- 11. The housing of claim 10, wherein each of the first and second bodies are formed as two abutting semicylinders.
- 12. The housing of claim 11, wherein a first seam in each of said first and second bodies is formed by the abutting of the semicylinders, each of the first seams being hinged.
- 13. The housing of claim 11, wherein a second seam in each of said first and second bodies is formed by the abutting of the semicylinders, each of the second seams being bridged by a clasp.
- 14. The housing of claim 10 wherein the inside diameters of the first body and the second body are substantially the same as an outside diameter of the heated platen.
- 15. The housing of claim 10 wherein the means for connection further comprises a sealing collar.
- 16. The housing of claim 10, wherein the hot melt adhesive is further contained within a flexible bag which is contained within the first body.
- 17. A housing adapted for use in the dispensing of hot melt adhesive compositions which can generate a toxic concentration of a volatile isocyanate compound, which housing can be used with heated platen dispensing equipment, the housing comprising:
- (a) a first housing body formed as two abutting semicylinders formed with a hinged seam and an opposing seam bridged by a clasp, the first housing body further having first and second open ends, wherein the first and the second open ends comprise means for attachment of an open end of the first housing body to another open end of a second housing body also formed as two abutting semicylinders formed with a hinged seam and an opposing seam bridged by a clasp, the first and second housing bodies forming a joint that can be sealed to the escape of a toxic concentration of volatile isocyanate; and
- (b) a mass of hot melt adhesive containing an isocyanate compound held within a container formed of a flexible bag having a flexible skirt member, the flexible skirt member being adapted to grip an exposed edge portion of the first housing body, the container residing within the first housing body and wherein during dispensing of the hot melt adhesive from the container, an end of the container can be removed and the second housing body within which resides a second opened container can be sealingly attached to the first container, such that the isocyanate can be dispensed by a heated platen from both containers without the release of a toxic concentration of isocyanate into the atmosphere.
