Claims
- 1. A pump having a short stroke mode and a long stroke mode, the pump comprising:
first and second material cylinders; first and second hydraulic drive cylinders connected to the material cylinders; and a hydraulic valve system for selectively operating the pump in a long stroke mode in which a longer stroke is made by the hydraulic drive cylinder, and a short stroke mode in which a shorter stroke is made by the hydraulic drive cylinder.
- 2. The pump of claim 1 wherein the hydraulic valve system comprises means to supply an amount of fluid to the hydraulic drive cylinders in the short stroke mode which is about half an amount of hydraulic fluid supplied to the hydraulic drive cylinders in the long stroke mode.
- 3. The pump of claim 2 wherein the hydraulic valve system comprises:
a material output valve which connects one material cylinder to an outlet and the other material cylinder to a material hopper, wherein the material output valve changes position so that as material exits one material cylinder at the outlet, material can enter the other material cylinder at the material hopper; a pump supplying the hydraulic drive cylinders with hydraulic fluid; a diverter valve located between the pump and the hydraulic drive cylinders for diverting an amount of hydraulic fluid supplied to the hydraulic drive cylinders; a reciprocating cylinder valve between the pump and the hydraulic drive cylinders which alternately drives material cylinder by supplying hydraulic fluid to its corresponding hydraulic drive cylinder and allowing fluid to exit from the other hydraulic drive cylinder; a short stroke valve located on one hydraulic drive cylinder that signals the material output valve and the reciprocating cylinder valve to change position when the material cylinder reaches a short stroke position; and a switch having a first position for selecting a long stroke mode and a second position for selecting a short stroke mode, wherein the second position activates the diverter valve and the short stroke valve.
- 4. A pump having a short stroke mode and a long stroke mode, the pump comprising:
first and second material cylinders; first and second hydraulic drive cylinders axially aligned with and connected to the material cylinders; first and second piston rods comprising hydraulic pistons located in the hydraulic drive cylinders wherein the hydraulic pistons are driven by hydraulic fluid supplied to the hydraulic drive cylinders; and a hydraulic valve system for selectively operating the hydraulic pistons in a long stroke mode in which a longer stroke is made by the hydraulic piston in the hydraulic drive cylinder, and a short stroke mode in which a shorter stroke is made by the hydraulic piston in the hydraulic drive cylinder.
- 5. The pump of claim 3 wherein the long stroke mode is when the hydraulic piston travels about a full length of the hydraulic cylinder.
- 6. The pump of claim 3 wherein the short stroke mode is when the hydraulic piston travels about a half length of the hydraulic cylinder.
- 7. The pump of claim 3 wherein the hydraulic valve system comprises a diverter valve for diverting about half a flow of hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic drive cylinders when the pump is operating in the short stroke mode.
- 8. The pump of claim 7 and further comprising a short stroke valve on the first hydraulic cylinder that senses when the hydraulic piston reaches a short stroke position on the first hydraulic cylinder.
- 9. The pump of claim 8 wherein the short stroke position is at about a middle position of the first hydraulic cylinder.
- 10. A two cylinder multi-duty viscous material pump capable of pumping in a long stroke mode when pumping concrete and pumping in a short stroke mode when pumping shotcrete, the pump comprising:
a short stroke valve system allowing the pump to operate in short stroke mode; a long stroke valve system allowing the pump to operate in long stroke mode; and a switch having a first position for selecting a long stroke mode and a second position for selecting a short stroke mode.
- 11. The pump of claim 10 wherein the long stroke valve system comprises:
a material output valve which connects one pump cylinder to an outlet and the other pump cylinder to a material hopper, wherein the material output valve changes position so that as material exits one pump cylinder at the outlet, material can enter the other pump cylinder at the material hopper; a hydraulic pump supplying hydraulic fluid to hydraulic drive cylinders operably coupled to the pump cylinders; and a reciprocating cylinder valve between the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic drive cylinders which alternately drives material cylinder by supplying hydraulic fluid to its corresponding hydraulic drive cylinder and allowing fluid to exit from the other hydraulic drive cylinder.
- 12. The pump of claim 11 wherein the short stroke valve system comprises:
a diverter valve located between the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic drive cylinders for diverting an amount of hydraulic fluid supplied to the hydraulic drive cylinders; and a short stroke valve located on one hydraulic drive cylinder that signals the material output valve and the reciprocating cylinder valve to change position when the material cylinder reaches a short stroke position, wherein placing the switch in the second position activates the diverter valve and the short stroke valve.
- 13. The pump of claim 10 wherein the pump operates at about 95 percent cylinder fill efficiency in the short stroke mode.
- 14. The pump of claim 10 wherein the pump operates at about 80 percent cylinder fill efficiency in the long stroke mode.
