Claims
- 1. A method of evaluating a potential antibiotic composition comprising
- contacting said composition with an Enterobacteriaceae bacterial cell possessing at least one operable Enterobacteriaceae gene selected from the group consisting of mar locus regulated 1(mlr1), mlr2, and mlr3 genes, and
- assaying for a change in the expression of said mlr gene as an indicator of activity of said composition.
- 2. A method of evaluating a potential antibiotic composition comprising
- contacting said composition with an Enterobacteriaceae bacterial cell possessing at least one marker gene operably joined to a regulatory region of an Enterobacteriaceae gene selected from the group consisting of mar locus regulated 1 (mlr1), mlr2, and mlr3 genes, and
- assaying for a change in the expression of said marker gene as an indicator of activity of said composition.
- 3. A method of evaluating a potential antibiotic composition comprising
- contacting said composition with an Enterobacteriaceae bacterial cell possessing at least one operable Enterobacteriaceae gene selected from the group consisting of mar locus regulated 1 (mlr1 ), mlr2, and mlr3 genes wherein the level of expression of said mlr gene has been recombinantly altered, and
- assaying for a change in survival or reproduction of said cell as an indicator of activity of said composition.
