Claims
- 1. A balloon catheter comprising:
an external sheath having a sheath port; a guidewire that tracks through the sheath port, the guidewire having an atraumatic tip; a moveable catheter extension for steering and extending the guidewire out through the sheath port; a balloon shaft joined to the guidewire and to the catheter extension a catheter tip slidably engageable with the external sheath, said catheter tip being fixed to at least one of the catheter extension and the balloon shaft; and a balloon connected to the balloon shaft.
- 2. The balloon catheter of claim 1 further comprising first and second radiopaque markers connected to the balloon shaft proximate to the ends of the balloon.
- 3. The balloon catheter of claim 1 wherein the catheter tip is heat bonded to the catheter extension and the balloon shaft.
- 4. The balloon catheter of claim 3 further comprising a non-melting tube heat bonded to the junction of catheter the catheter extension and the balloon shaft.
- 5. The balloon catheter of claim 3 wherein the catheter extension and the balloon shaft comprises a bend of about 180° proximate to the heat bond.
- 6. The balloon catheter of claim 1 wherein the external sheath includes a radiopaque marker to indicate the location of the sheath port.
- 7. The balloon catheter of claim 1 wherein the guidewire has sufficient kink resistance to track the balloon through the sheath port.
- 8. The balloon catheter of claim 1 where the guidewire has a diameter that increases along the length from the atruamatic tip.
- 9. The balloon catheter of claim 8 wherein the atraumatic tip comprises a bend that subtends an angle of between 60° and 70°.
- 10. The balloon catheter of claim 9 wherein the atraumatic tip includes a radiopaque marker.
- 11. A catheter manifold assembly comprising:
a catheter tip; a first lumen extending from the catheter tip; a second lumen extending from the catheter tip; and a heat bond interconnecting the catheter tip and the first and second lumens wherein the first lumen and the second lumen comprise a bend of about 180° proximate to the heat bond.
