- 6. The imaging system of claim 2 wherein said photosensitive composition is sensitive to ultraviolet radiation.
- 7. The imaging system of claim 2 wherein said capsule wall is formed by a hydrophilic material which transmits said actinic radiation.
- 8. The imaging system of claim 7 wherein said capsule wall is formed by a material selected from the group consisting of gelatin, polyamide, polyvinyl alcohol, resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, polyisocyanate resin, urea-resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, melamine-formaldehyde resin, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and combinations thereof.
- 9. The imaging system of claim 8 wherein said discrete capsule wall is formed of gelatin or urea-resorcinol-formaldehyde resin.
- 10. A self-contained imaging sheet in which images are formed by image-wise reaction of one or more chromogenic materials and a developer material, said sheet comprising:
- a substrate having front and back surfaces,
- a chromogenic material,
- a composition which undergoes a decrease in viscosity upon exposure to actinic radiation,
- a coating containing said chromogenic material and said composition on one of said front and back surfaces, and
- a developer material capable of reacting with said chromogenic material to form a visible image co-deposited on said substrate with said coating containing said chromogenic material,
- said composition being encapsulated in rupturable capsules as an internal phase,
- wherein images are formed by image-wise exposing said coated substrate to actinic radiation and rupturing said capsules in the exposed areas such that said internal phase is released from said capsules in the exposed areas and said chromogenic material pattern-wise reacts with said developer material to form an image.
- 11. The imaging sheet of claim 10 wherein said internal phase is encapsulated in a microcapsule having a discrete capsule wall.
- 12. The imaging sheet of claim 11 wherein said chromogenic material is encapsulated with said photosensitive composition.
- 13. The imaging sheet of claim 11 wherein said chromogenic material is a substantially colorless electron donating compound and said developer material is an electron accepting compound.
- 14. The imaging sheet of claim 11 wherein said photosensitive composition is sensitive to ultraviolet, infrared, X-ray, electron beam, or visible radiation.
- 15. The imaging sheet of claim 11 wherein said photosensitive composition is sensitive to ultraviolet radiation.
- 16. The imaging sheet of claim 11 wherein said capsule wall is formed by a hydrophilic material which transmits said actinic radiation.

The imaging sheet of claim 16 wherein said capsule wall is formed by a material selected from the group consisting of gelatin, polyamide, polyvinyl alcohol, resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, polyisocyanate resin, urea-formaldehyde resin, urea-resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, melamine-formaldehyde resin, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and combinations thereof.
- 18. The imaging sheet of claim 17 wherein said capsule wall is formed by gelatin or urea-resonicinol-formaldehyde resin.
- 19. An imaging process which comprises:
- image-wise exposing to actinic radiation an imaging sheet comprising a substrate and a coating comprising a substantially colorless chromogenic material and rupturable capsules containing a photosensitive composition which undergoes a decrease in viscosity upon exposure to actinic radiation, and
- rupturing said capsules in the exposed areas in the presence of a developer material such that there is a patterned reaction between said chromogenic material and said developer material which produces a negative image corresponding to said exposure.
- 20. The process of claim 19 wherein said rupturable capsules are microcapsules having a discrete capsule wall.
- 21. The process of claim 20 wherein said photosensitive composition is sensitive to visible, ultra-violet, infrared, X-ray, or electron beam radiation.
