Claims
- 1. An information storage medium, comprising:
opposing first and second sides having opposing first and second chamfers, respectively, wherein the first chamfer has a different shape from the second chamfer.
- 2. The medium of claim 1, wherein the information storage medium is a magnetic hard disk.
- 3. The medium of claim 1, wherein the first and second chamfer, respectively, have first and second chamfer angles and the first and second chamfer angles are different.
- 4. The medium of claim 1, wherein the first and second chamfers, respectively, have first and second chamfer lengths and the first and second chamfer lengths are different.
- 5. The medium of claim 1, wherein the first and second chamfers, respectively, have first and second chamfer surface lengths and the first and second chamfer surface lengths are different.
- 6. The medium of claim 2, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers is an arcuate surface.
- 7. The medium of claim 6, wherein both of the first and second chamfers are arcuate surfaces, the first and second chamfers, respectively, have a first and second radius, and the first and second radii are different.
- 8. The medium of claim 2, wherein one of the first and second chamfers is an arcuate surface and the other of the first and second chamfers is a planar surface.
- 9. The medium of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers comprises a radial groove.
- 10. The medium of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers comprises a radial step.
- 11. The medium of claim 2, wherein the first and second chamfers are located on a same end of the disk.
- 12. The medium of claim 1, wherein the medium is disk shaped and wherein the medium has an inner hole bounded by an inner periphery of the disk.
- 13. The medium of claim 12, wherein the first and second chamfers are located adjacent to an inner periphery of the disk.
- 14. The medium of claim 12, wherein the first and second chamfers are located adjacent to an outer periphery of the disk.
- 15. The medium of claim 1, wherein one of the first and second sides is active and the other of the first and second sides is inactive.
- 16. The medium of claim 15, wherein the chamfer length on the active side of the medium is less than the chamfer length on the inactive side of the medium.
- 17. An information storage device comprising the medium of claim 1.
- 18. A magnetic hard disk, comprising:
opposing first and second sides having opposing first and second chamfers, respectively, wherein the first chamfer is dissimilar from the second chamfer.
- 19. The medium of claim 18, wherein the first and second chamfer, respectively, have first and second chamfer angles and the first and second chamfer angles are different.
- 20. The medium of claim 18, wherein the first and second chamfers, respectively, have first and second chamfer lengths and the first and second chamfer lengths are different.
- 21. The medium of claim 18, wherein the first and second chamfers, respectively, have first and second chamfer surface lengths and the first and second chamfer surface lengths are different.
- 22. The medium of claim 18, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers is an arcuate surface.
- 23. The medium of claim 22, wherein both of the first and second chamfers are arcuate surfaces, the first and second chamfers, respectively, have a first and second radius, and the first and second radii are different.
- 24. The medium of claim 18, wherein one of the first and second chamfers is an arcuate surface and the other of the first and second chamfers is a planar surface.
- 25. The medium of claim 18, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers comprises a radial groove.
- 26. The medium of claim 18, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers comprises a radial step.
- 27. The medium of claim 18, wherein the first and second chamfers are located on a same end of the disk.
- 28. The medium of claim 18, wherein the medium is disk shaped and wherein the medium has an inner hole bounded by an inner periphery of the disk.
- 29. The medium of claim 28, wherein the first and second chamfers are located adjacent to an inner periphery of the disk.
- 30. The medium of claim 28, wherein the first and second chamfers are located adjacent to an outer periphery of the disk.
- 31. The medium of claim 18, wherein one of the first and second sides is active and the other of the first and second sides is inactive.
- 32. The medium of claim 31, wherein the chamfer length on the active side of the medium is less than the chamfer length on the inactive side of the medium.
- 33. An information storage device comprising the disk of claim 18.
- 34. A single-sided magnetic hard disk, comprising:
opposing first and second sides having opposing first and second chamfers, respectively, wherein the first chamfer is dissimilar from the second chamfer and wherein the first side is capable of storing information and the second side is incapable of storing information.
- 35. The medium of claim 34, wherein the first and second chamfer, respectively, have first and second chamfer angles and the first and second chamfer angles are different.
- 36. The medium of claim 34, wherein the first and second chamfers, respectively, have first and second chamfer lengths and the first and second chamfer lengths are different.
- 37. The medium of claim 34, wherein the first and second chamfers, respectively, have first and second chamfer surface lengths and the first and second chamfer surface lengths are different.
- 38. The medium of claim 34, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers is an arcuate surface.
- 39. The medium of claim 38, wherein both of the first and second chamfers are arcuate surfaces, the first and second chamfers, respectively, have a first and second radius, and the first and second radii are different.
- 40. The medium of claim 34, wherein one of the first and second chamfers is an arcuate surface and the other of the first and second chamfers is a planar surface.
- 41. The medium of claim 34, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers comprises a radial groove.
- 42. The medium of claim 34, wherein at least one of the first and second chamfers comprises a radial step.
- 43. The medium of claim 34, wherein the first and second chamfers are located on a same end of the disk.
- 44. The medium of claim 34, wherein the medium is disk shaped and wherein the medium has an inner hole bounded by an inner periphery of the disk.
- 45. The medium of claim 44, wherein the first and second chamfers are located adjacent to an inner periphery of the disk.
- 46. The medium of claim 44, wherein the first and second chamfers are located adjacent to an outer periphery of the disk.
- 47. The medium of claim 34, wherein the chamfer length on the active side of the medium is less than the chamfer length on the inactive side of the medium.
- 48. An information storage device comprising the disk of claim 34.
