Claims
- 1. A burner for gas-fired infra-red generators comprising a body, a combustion mixture plenum in said body, two spaced partitions in said plenum extending completely across said plenum, means for moving said partitions toward and away from each other to adjust the size of the chamber therebetween, a porous plate comprising the top wall of said plenum, a ceramic fiber matrix over said porous plate, a lower channel in said body under said plenum, passage means for permitting the flow of a combustion mixture into said lower channel, and said lower channel being in flow communication with said plenum to permit the combustion mixture to flow into said plenum.
- 2. The burner of claim 1 wherein said means for moving said partitions comprises threaded rod means threadably engaged with said partitions.
- 3. The burner of claim 2 wherein said rod means comprises a single rod, and the portions of said rod engaged with said partitions being oppositely threaded.
- 4. The burner of claim 1 including an air seal channel on each side of said plenum and said lower channel, and means for supplying air to said air seal channels.
- 5. The burner of claim 4 wherein the top of each of said air seal channels supports said matrix in addition to said porous plate supporting said matrix.
- 6. The burner of claim 5 wherein said means for supplying air to said air seal channels comprises a nipple in the side wall of each of said air seal channels, said passage means comprising a nipple in the floor of said lower channel, and said lower channel being in flow communication with said plenum by means of holes in a common wall separating said plenum and said lower channel.
- 7. The burner of claim 6 wherein said holes are located in a portion of said plenum between said partitions which is not reachable by said partitions.
