Claims
- 1. Apparatus for forming a roll of overlapping individual plastic webs of material comprising:
- a first transporting means for advancing a leading web of material at a first speed, said first transporting means comprising a pair of feed rolls;
- a means for separating the leading web and a trailing web;
- a second transporting means for receiving a leading end of the leading web from the first transporting means at a second speed slower that the first speed and advancing the leading web at the second speed;
- a means for receiving the leading end of the leading web advancing at the second speed slower than the first speed and winding the leading web into a roll;
- a means for accommodating slack in the leading web caused by a differential in speed between the first and second transporting means;
- the first transporting means advancing a leading portion of the trailing web toward a trailing end portion of the leading web advancing into the second transporting means and overlapping the leading portion of the trailing web onto the trailing end portion of the leading web before it passes through the second transporting means;
- the receiving means receiving and winding the overlapping leading end portion of the trailing web into the roll between the trailing end portion of the leading web and the leading web winding on the receiving means;
- wherein said leading web and said trailing web are formed from a continuous sheet of plastic film having perforations thereon, the continuous sheet of plastic film being provided between the pair of feed rolls, and the means for separating separates the leading web and the trailing web at a perforation.
- 2. The invention in accordance with claim 1 wherein the means for accommodating slack is an air nozzle synchronized to direct a flow of air against the leading web once the leading end portion is received in the second transporting means.
- 3. The invention in accordance with claim 1 wherein the slack accommodating means is a reciprocable arm and roller means synchronized for pushing against the leading web once the leading end portion is received in the second transporting means.
- 4. The invention in accordance with claim 1, further including a guiding means comprising an air nozzle synchronized to direct a flow of air against the leading end portions of the leading and trailing webs when respectively advancing from the first transporting means for guiding the leading end portions into the second transporting means.
- 5. The invention in accordance with claim 1, further including an indexing means for forming a subsequent roll of overlapping individual webs of material without interrupting of feed into the receiving and winding means upon completing each roll of overlapping individual webs of material.
- 6. The invention in accordance with claim 1, wherein the webs of material are segments of bags.
- 7. The invention in accordance with claim 1 wherein said slack accommodating means is a mechanical loop former synchronized for pushing against said leading web once the leading end portion is received in said second transporting means.
- 8. An apparatus for overlapping individual plastic webs of material comprising:
- a pair of feed rolls driven at a first speed;
- a pair of driving rolls driven at a speed slower than said first speed; and
- a winder;
- said driving rolls being downstream from said feed rolls and said winder being downstream from said driving rolls;
- means for providing a continuous sheet of plastic film having perforations thereon between said pair of feed rolls, said feed rolls and said driving rolls and for providing forming interleaved webs of material from said plastic film between said driving rolls, said interleaved webs of material to said winder.
- 9. The invention in accordance with claim 8 wherein a pair of nip rolls is disposed between said feed rolls and said driving rolls, said nip rolls being urged together to create a nip, said nip rolls being driven at a speed greater than said feed rolls allowing for the separation of a web from said plastic film at a perforation in said plastic film.
- 10. The invention in accordance with claim 8 wherein said webs of material are segments of bags.
- 11. The invention in accordance with claim 8 wherein an air nozzle is disposed between said feed rolls and said driving rolls, said air nozzle being synchronized to direct a flow of air against a leading web once a leading end portion of said leading web is received in said driving rolls.
- 12. The invention in accordance with claim 8 wherein a mechanical loop former is disposed between said feed rolls and said driving rolls.
- 13. The invention in accordance with claim 12 wherein said mechanical loop former comprises a rocker arm and a spacer, said rocker arm and said spacer being synchronized for pushing against a leading web once a leading end portion of said leading web is received in said driving rolls.
- 14. An apparatus for overlapping individual plastic webs of material comprising:
- a pair of feed rolls driven at a first speed;
- a pair of driving rolls driven at a speed slower than said first speed;
- a winder;
- said driving rolls being downstream from said feed rolls and said winder being downstream from said driving rolls; and
- a mechanical loop former disposed between said feed rolls and said driving rolls, said mechanical loop former comprising a rocker arm and a spacer; and;
- means for providing webs of material are provided to said apparatus, said feed rolls and said driving rolls causing an interleaving of said webs of material between said driving rolls, said interleaved webs of material being provided to said winder, said rocker arm and spacer being synchronized for pushing against a leading web once a leading end portion of said leading web is received in said driving rolls.
