Claims
- 1. A kit for immunizing an animal against swine infertility and respiratory syndrome (SIRS) comprising:
attenuated SIRS virus; and a pharmaceutical carrier; wherein the attenuated SIRS virus is produced by a process comprising passaging a SIRS virus through simian cells to form modified SIRS virus which is non-zoopathogenic in swine.
- 2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the simian cells are simian kidney cells.
- 3. The kit of claim 1, wherein the simian cells are MA-104 simian kidney cells.
- 4. The kit of claim 1, wherein the attenuated SIRS virus is purified by gradient or serial cell culturation.
- 5. The kit of claim 1, further comprising instructions for immunizing swine against SIRS virus.
- 6. The kit of claim 1, wherein the attenuated SIRS virus is formulated as a dosage unit having a titer of 103 to 107 TCID50/ml.
- 7. A kit for producing an immunogenic SIRS composition comprising:
an attenuated SIRS virus produced by a process comprising passaging a SIRS virus through simian cells to form modified SIRS virus which is non-zoopathogenic in swine; and simian cells.
- 8. The kit of claim 7, wherein the simian cells are African Green Monkey kidney cells.
- 9. The kit of claim 8, wherein the African Green Monkey kidney cells are MA-104 simian cells.
- 10. The kit of claim 7, further comprising culture media.
- 11. The kit of claim 10, wherein the culture media comprises serum.
- 12. The kit of claim 11, wherein the serum comprises fetal calf serum.
- 13. A method of growing swine infertility and respiratory syndrome virus comprising:
(a) inoculating swine infertility and respiratory syndrome virus on simian cells; and (b) incubating the inoculated simian cells.
- 14. An immunogenic composition comprising attenuated SIRS virus ATCC VR-2332 which is non-zoopathogenic in swine.
- 15. The immunogenic composition of claim 14, further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
