Claims
- 1. A latch assembly for a SMIF container having a box and a box door, comprising:
a rotational element mounted to said box door on a rotational axis, said rotational element having a pair of guides; a latch key receptor adapted to receive a latch key and having a pair of engagement tabs adapted to engage said guides so that said latch key receptor moves in a plane substantially orthogonal to said rotational axis; and a pair of latch arms, each latch arm having a proximal end engaged with said rotational element and a distal end adapted to engage the box.
- 2. A latch assembly according to claim 1, wherein said rotational element further comprises pins for driving said pair of latch arms upon rotation of said rotational element.
- 3. A latch assembly according to claim 1, wherein said rotational element further comprises ramps for pivoting said pair of latch arms upon rotation of said rotational element.
- 4. A latch assembly according to claim 1, further comprising a cover plate holding said pair of engagement tabs engaged with said guides.
- 5. A latch assembly for a SMIF container having a box and a box door, comprising:
a rotational element mounted to said box door on a rotational axis, said rotational element having a pair of guides and a recessed area; a latch key receptor, adapted to receive a latch key, positioned within said recessed area, said latch key receptor having a pair of engagement tabs adapted to engage said guides so that the latch key receptor moves in a plane substantially orthogonal to said rotational axis; and a pair of latch arms, each latch arm having a proximal end engaged with said rotational element and a distal end adapted to engage the box.
- 6. A latch assembly according to claim 5, further comprising a detenting mechanism for compliantly retaining said latch key receptor centered in said recessed area.
- 7. A latch assembly according to claim 5, wherein said rotational element is rotatably connected to a pod door.
- 8. A latch assembly according to claim 5, wherein latch key receptor has a central opening with beveled edges adapted to facilitate proper seating of a latch key.
- 9. A latch assembly according to claim 5, wherein said latch assembly is adapted to latch a pod door to a pod shell in a front opening pod.
- 10. A latch assembly for a SMIF container having a box and a box door, comprising:
a rotational element mounted to said box door on a rotational axis, said rotational element having two pair of raised guides, each pair of raised guides defining a guide space; a latch key receptor, adapted to receive a latch key, positioned between said two pair of raised guides, said latch key receptor having a pair of engagement tabs adapted to engage said guide spaces so that the latch key receptor moves in a plane substantially orthogonal to said rotational axis; and a pair of latch arms, each latch arm having a proximal end engaged with said rotational element and a distal end adapted to engage the box.
- 11. A latch assembly according to claim 10, wherein each pair of raised guides comprises elongated, parallel raised guides.
- 12. A latch assembly according to claim 10, further comprising a detenting mechanism for compliantly retaining said latch key receptor centered between said two pair of raised guides.
- 13. A latch assembly according to claim 10, wherein said rotational element is rotatably connected to a pod door.
- 14. A latch assembly according to claim 10, wherein said rotational element further comprises pins for driving said pair of latch arms upon rotation of said rotational element.
- 15. A latch assembly according to claim 10, wherein said rotational element further comprises ramps for pivoting said pair of latch arms upon rotation of said rotational element.
- 16. A latch assembly according to claim 10, further comprising a boss for rotatably mounting said rotational element to a pod door.
- 17. A latch assembly according to claim 10, further comprising a cover plate holding said pair of engagement tabs engaged with said guide spaces.
- 18. A latch assembly for a SMIF container having a box and a box door, comprising:
a rotational element mounted to said box door on a rotational axis, said rotational element having a pair of raised guides; a latch key receptor, adapted to receive a latch key, having a pair of oblong recesses adapted to engage said raised guides so that said latch key receptor moves in a plane substantially orthogonal to said rotational axis; and a pair of latch arms, each latch arm having a proximal end engaged with said rotational element and a distal end adapted to engage the box.
