Claims
- 1. Water-dispersible and water-emulsifiable amphiphilic co-oligomers for the oiling of leather and skins, said co-oligomers comprising the reaction product of
- a. fatty crotonates and
- b. radical-copolymerizable, hydrophilic ethylenically unsaturated acids and anhydrides and optionally,
- c. other copolymerizable monomers.
- 2. The co-oligomers claimed in claim 1, wherein component (a) is selected from esters or ester mixtures of crotonic acid and C.sub.10-40 fatty alcohols.
- 3. The co-oligomers of claim 1 wherein said component (b) is selected from the group consisting of ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids, ethylenically unsaturated anhydrides, ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids, ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydrides, aliphatic sulfonic acids, aromatic sulfonic acids, and mixtures thereof.
- 4. The co-oligomers of claim 3 wherein said component (b) contains from 3 to 12 carbon atoms.
- 5. The co-oligomers of claim 3 wherein said component (b) is selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, maleic anhydride, maleic acid, crotonic acid, and fumaric acid.
- 6. The co-oligomers of claim 1 containing copolymerizable comonomers free of hydrophilicizing groups as component (c), said component (c) being present in an amount of up to 30% by weight, based on the weight of (a)+(b)+(c).
- 7. The co-oligomers of claim 1 wherein said co-oligomers have an average molecular weight in the range from about 500 to 30,000 g./mole.
- 8. Aqueous dispersions of amphiphilic co-oligomers for the oiling of leather and skins, said co-oligomers comprising the reaction product of
- a. fatty crotonates and
- b. radical-copolymerizable, hydrophilic ethylenically unsaturated acids and anhydrides and optimally
- c. other hydrophilic and oligophilic comonomers
- which co-oligomers contain ratios by weight of (a) to (b) of 30-90 to 70-10% by weight based on the sum of (a)+(b).
- 9. The aqueous dispersions of claim 8 further containing an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of sulfosuccinic acid semiesters of long-chain fatty alcohols containing 12 to 24 carbon atoms, alkylene oxide adducts of sulfosuccinic acid semiesters of long-chain fatty alcohols containing 12 to 24 carbon atoms and having up to 6 alkylene oxide units, sulfosuccinic acid semiesters of fatty acid mono-, or di-glycerides, alkylene oxide adducts of sulfosuccinic acid semiesters of fatty acid mono- or di-glycerides having up to 6 alkylene oxide units and containing 12 to 24 carbon atoms, alpha-sulfofatty acids containing 12 to 24 carbon atoms, internal sulfonates of mono- or poly-olefinically unsaturated fatty acids containing at least 12 carbon atoms, salts of an amino acid containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms attached at the amine nitrogen atom to an acyl group of a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid containing 9 to 20 carbon atoms, fatty acid sarcosides, and mixtures thereof.
- 10. The aqueous dispersions of claim 8 further containing impregnating or hydrophobicizing leather oiling agents consisting essentially of sulfosuccinic acid esters having C.sub.12-24 fatty residues in combination with a compound selected from the group consisting of oxidized or oxidized and partly sulfonated C.sub.18-26 hydrocarbons, C.sub.32-40 waxes, phosphoric acid mono-C.sub.12-24 alkyl esters, partial esters of polycarboxylic acids, partial esters of polyalcohols, and mixtures thereof.
- 11. The aqueous dispersions of claim 8 wherein said dispersions have a pH in the range from 7 to 8.
