Claims
- 1. A film-laminate foamed-plastic part, comprising:
a film-laminate fused to a foamed-plastic substrate.
- 2. A film-laminate foamed-plastic part as in claim 1, wherein;
said foamed-plastic substrate comprises a hollow core.
- 3. A film-laminate foamed-plastic part as in claim 1, wherein said foamed-plastic substrate comprises a thermoplastic olefin nucleated with nitrogen.
- 4. A film-laminate foamed-plastic part as in claim 3, wherein;
said foamed-plastic substrate comprises a hollow core.
- 5. Method of making a film-laminate foamed-plastic part by insert-molding of a film-laminate over a foamed-plastic substrate, to form a show-face surface of said part, said method comprising:
(a) providing a male mold member including a surface defining a convexity therein and a female mold member having a surface defining a concavity therein, said-male mold member and said female mold member together defining a mold cavity; (b) providing a film-laminate comprising a show-face side; (c) inserting said film-laminate into said mold cavity and positioning said show-face side proximate to said female mold member concavity; and (d) injecting molten plastic and gas simultaneously into said mold cavity such that said gas is incorporated into the flow of molten plastic wherein a molten mixture of plastic and gas is formed, said molten mixture enters said mold cavity from the male mold member side whereby said film-laminate is superposed over said molten mixture.
- 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step:
(e) injecting gas into said mold cavity such that a hollow core is formed in said molten foamed-plastic substrate.
- 7. The method of claim 5, wherein said film-laminate is pre-formed prior to inserting into said mold cavity.
- 8. The method of claim 5, wherein said foamed-plastic substrate comprises a thermoplastic olefin nucleated with nitrogen.
- 9. The method of claim 6, wherein said foamed-plastic substrate comprises a thermoplastic olefin nucleated with nitrogen.
- 10. The method of claim 7, wherein said foamed-plastic substrate comprises a thermoplastic olefin nucleated with nitrogen.
- 11. A method of making a film laminate plastic part comprising
(a) providing a mold cavity; (b) placing said film laminate in said mold cavity; (c) providing a porous mass of molten plastic in said mold cavity with said film laminate being fused to a portion of said molten plastic in said mold cavity; (d) coring out a section of said molten plastic to form a hollow article; and (e) opening said mold cavity and ejecting a hollow paint film laminate covered plastic part therefrom.
- 12. Method as recited in claim 11 wherein said step (c) comprises admixing gas and said molten plastic in said mold cavity.
- 13. Method as recited in claim 11 wherein said step (c) comprises combining a chemical agent and said molten plastic in said mold cavity.
- 14. Method as recited in claim 11 wherein said step (d) is performed subsequent to said (c); said step (d) comprising injecting gas into said section of said molten plastic.
