Claims
- 1. A polymer blend composition comprising: a plurality of linear ethylene interpolymer components comprising ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin comonomer, each component having a different average molecular weight, a Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3, a composition distribution breadth index of at least 50% and a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 ; the composition having a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 and a Mw/Mn>3; wherein the composition is essentially free of components having a higher average molecular weight and a lower average comonomer content than that of any other components.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein said composition has a density in the range of 0.900 to 0.94 g/cm.sup.3.
- 3. The composition of claim 1, wherein said components have an .alpha.-olefin comonomer content in the range of 1 to 30 mole percent and an ethylene content in the range of 99 to 70 mole percent.
- 4. The composition of claim 1, wherein said components are selected from the group consisting of:
- very low density linear polyethylenes; and linear, low density polyethylenes.
- 5. The blend of claim 1, wherein the blend components have essentially the same comonomer content and different molecular weights.
- 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the molecular weights and the comonomer contents of the components are both different.
- 7. The composition of claim 1, wherein the value of M.sub. /M.sub.n for each component is less than or equal to 2.5.
- 8. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition distribution breadth index for each component is greater than about 70%.
- 9. A polymer blend comprising:
- a plurality of linear ethylene interpolymer components comprising ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin comonomer, each component having a different average molecular weight, a narrow molecular weight distribution such that Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3, a composition distribution breadth index of at least 50% and a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 ; and
- said components are selected from one of the groups consisting of: (1) components having essentially the same average comonomer content but different average molecular weights; and (2) components having different average molecular weights and comonomer contents; and wherein said blend has a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 and a Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3 wherein the blend is essentially free of blend components having both a higher average molecular weight and a lower average comonomer content than that of any other component and said blend has a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3.
- 10. The blend of claim 9, wherein the blend has a density of 0.900 to 0.94 g/cm.sup.3.
- 11. The blend of claim 9, wherein said components each have an average molar .alpha.-olefin comonomer content of 1-30 percent.
- 12. The blend of claim 11, wherein said components include very low density, linear polyethylenes.
- 13. The blend of claim 11, wherein said components include linear, low density polyethylenes.
- 14. The blend of claim 9, wherein the number of said components is from 2 to 5.
- 15. The blend of claim 9, wherein the blend has plural modality with respect to molecular weight, comonomer content or both.
- 16. The blend of claim 11, wherein said .alpha.-olefins have from 3 to about 12 carbon atoms.
- 17. The blend of claim 9 wherein each of said components have a Mw/Mn<2.5 and a composition distribution breadth index in the range from 50 to 70%.
- 18. The blend of claim 17, wherein M.sub.w /M.sub.n .ltoreq.2.0 for each component.
- 19. The blend of claim 17, wherein each component has a composition distribution breadth index in the range of from 50 to 90%.
- 20. A polymer blend composition comprising:
- a plurality of ethylene interpolymers comprising ethylene and at least one .alpha.-olefin comonomer, each of said components having a different average molecular weight, a Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3, a CDBI of at least 50% and a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 ; the composition having a density in the range of greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 to 0.940 g/cm.sup.3 and a Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3; wherein the composition is essentially free of blend components having both a higher average molecular weight and a lower average comonomer content than that of any other component.
- 21. The composition of claim 20 wherein said components have an .alpha.-olefin comonomer content in the range of 1 to 30 mole percent and an ethylene content in the range of 99 to 70 mole percent.
- 22. The composition of claim 20 wherein said components have essentially the same comonomer content and different molecular weights.
- 23. The composition of claim 20 wherein said components have both a different molecular weight and comonomer content.
- 24. The composition of claim 20 wherein each of said components have a Mw/Mn less than or equal to 2.5.
- 25. The composition of claim 20 wherein each of said components have a CDBI greater than about 60%.
- 26. The composition of claim 20 wherein each of said components have a CDBI greater than 70%.
- 27. The composition of claim 20 wherein at least one of said components has a CDBI greater than 70%.
- 28. The composition of claim 20 wherein said components consist of at least one of the group of very low density linear polyethylenes and linear low density polyethylenes.
- 29. The composition of claim 20 wherein said components have a Mw/Mn.ltoreq.2.5 and a CDBI greater than 70%.
- 30. A polymer blend composition comprising:
- a plurality of ethylene interpolymer components comprising ethylene and at least one .alpha.-olefin comonomer, each of said components having a different average molecular weight, a Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3, a CDBI greater than 50% and a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 ; said composition having a density in the range of about 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 to about 0.940 g/cm.sup.3, a Mw/Mn>3 and a CDBI greater than 50%; wherein the composition is essentially free of said components having both a higher average molecular weight and a lower average comonomer content than that of any other component.
- 31. The composition of claim 30 wherein said components have an .alpha.-olefin comonomer content in the range of 1 to 30 mole percent and an ethylene content in the range of 99 to 70 mole percent.
- 32. The composition of claim 30 wherein said components have essentially the same comonomer content and different molecular weights.
- 33. The composition of claim 30 wherein said components have both a different molecular weight and comonomer content.
- 34. The composition of claim 30 wherein each of said components have a Mw/Mn less than or equal to 2.5.
- 35. The composition of claim 30 wherein each of said components have a CDBI greater than about 60%.
- 36. The composition of claim 30 wherein each of said components have a CDBI greater than 70%.
- 37. A polymer blend composition comprising:
- a plurality of linear ethylene interpolymer components comprising ethylene and at least one C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 .alpha.-olefin comonomer, each of said interpolymers having a different average molecular weight, a Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3 and a CDBI greater than 50% and a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 ; a high density polyethylene component; said composition having a density greater than or equal to 0.900 g/cm.sup.3, and a Mw/Mn.ltoreq.3; wherein the composition is essentially free of said components having both a higher average molecular weight and a lower average comonomer content than that of any other component.
- 38. The composition of claim 37 wherein said interpolymer components have a CDBI of at least 60%.
- 39. The composition of claim 37 wherein at least one of said interpolymer components has a CDBI of at least 70%.
- 40. The composition of claim 37 wherein the composition has a density in the range of 0.900 g/cm.sup.3 to about 0.940 g/cm.sup.3.
