Claims
- 1. A lithographic printing member directly imageable by laser discharge, the member comprising:
- a. a first solid layer;
- b. a second solid layer underlying the first layer;
- c. a solid substrate underlying the second layer; and
- wherein
- e. the first layer and substrate exhibit different affinities for at least one printing liquid selected from the group consisting of ink and an abhesive fluid for ink;
- f. the second layer, but not the first layer, is formed of a material being subject to ablative absorption of imaging radiation; and
- g. at least one layer disposed beneath the second solid layer reflects imaging radiation.
- 2. The member of claim 1 wherein the second layer is a conducting polymer.
- 3. The member of claim 2 wherein the second layer is a polycarbonate film containing a dispersion of carbon-black particles.
- 4. The member of claim 1 wherein the second layer includes a dispersion of solid particulate nigrosine.
- 5. The member of claim 1 wherein the second layer includes solubilized nigrosine.
- 6. The member of claim 1 wherein the second layer is a nitrocellulose film containing a dispersion of carbon-black particles.
- 7. The member of claim 1 wherein the second layer is a polyester film containing a dispersion of carbon-black particles.
- 8. The member of claim 1 wherein the second layer is a polyimide film containing a dispersion of carbon-black particles.
- 9. The member of claim 1 wherein the second layer is a vinyl film containing a dispersion of carbon-black particles.
- 10. The member of claim 1 wherein the substrate is at least 7 mils thick.
- 11. A lithographic printing member directly imageable by laser discharge, the member comprising:
- a. a first solid layer;
- b. a second solid layer underlying the first layer;
- c. a solid substrate underlying the second layer; and
- d. a fourth layer disposed between the second layer and the substrate and comprising a material that reflects imaging radiation,
- wherein
- e. the first layer and substrate exhibit different affinities for at least one printing liquid selected from the group consisting of ink and an adhesive fluid for ink; and
- f. the second layer, but not the first layer, is formed of a material being subject to ablative absorption of imaging radiation.
