Claims
- 1. A magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus for selectively having a normal cassette containing a recording/reproducing tape or a cleaning cassette containing a cleaning tape loaded therein, comprising:
- discriminating means for determining whether a cassette loaded into said magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus is one of said normal cassette and said cleaning cassette, said cleaning cassette including storage means having information stored therein for indicating a predetermined time said cleaning cassette may be used during each use thereof; and
- control means for controlling operations of said magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus in a manner such that, when said discriminating means determines that the loaded cassette is said cleaning cassette, said control means is operative to retrieve the stored information from the corresponding storage means in said cleaning cassette and is operative to start said cleaning operation,,said control means being further operative to keep a cleaning time during said cleaning operation and to eject said cleaning cassette when said cleaning time is substantially equal to said predetermined time.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising means for generating a warning signal during said cleaning operation.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said cleaning operation is intended to be performed by a particular type of cleaning cassette matching the type of said magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus, and wherein said control means controls said cleaning operation according to whether the type of the loaded cleaning cassette determined by said discriminating means matches said particular type of cleaning cassette intended for performing said cleaning operation in said magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said normal cassette includes said storage means, and wherein each of said normal and cleaning cassettes has further information stored in the respective storage means for indicating whether the respective cassette is one of said normal cassette and said cleaning cassette, said discriminating means determining whether the loaded cassette is one of said normal cassette and said cleaning cassette based on said information in the loaded cassette.
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said storage means includes a memory in the respective cassette, and said information is stored as respective digital data in said memory.
- 6. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said storage means includes an ID board attached to the respective cassette, and said information is stored as electrical values on said ID board.
- 7. The apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said electrical values are resistance values of respective resistors.
- 8. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said storage means of said cleaning cassette has further information stored therein for respectively indicating the number of times the respective cleaning cassette may be used during one cleaning operation, a total accumulated cleaning time during which said cleaning cassette has been used and a total possible cleaning time during which said cleaning cassette may be used.
- 9. The apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said control means responds to said further information in said storage means for aborting said cleaning operation by said cleaning cassette when said number of times said cleaning cassette may be used during said one cleaning operation is exceeded, or when said total accumulated cleaning time during which said respective cleaning cassette has been used exceeds said total possible cleaning time for said respective cleaning cassette.
- 10. The apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said storage means includes a memory in which said further information is stored as digital data.
