Claims
- 1. A magnetic recording medium wherein a pattern of soft magnetic material corresponding to an information signal is formed on a substrate and beneath and proximate to a flat exterior surface of said magnetic recording medium, wherein the presence or absence of said pattern relative to a direction normal to said surface and along a direction of recording defines said information signal, wherein said substrate is made of non-magnetic material.
- 2. The magnetic recording medium of claim 1, wherein said soft magnetic material positioned on a substrate is any one of a thin film provided on a surface of said substrate, fine particles stuck on said surface, a leaf of material and a bulk material.
- 3. The magnetic recording medium of claim 1, wherein said exterior surface of said substrate is formed of a protecting film made of a nonmagnetic material, with the exterior surface of said protecting film being made flat.
- 4. The magnetic recording medium of claim 1, wherein portions of said soft magnetic material are separated by portions of said non-magnetic material having no soft magnetic material formed thereon.
- 5. The magnetic recording medium of claim 4, wherein said portions of said soft-magnetic material lie on portions of said non-magnetic material which are closer to said surface relative to said portions of said non-magnetic material having no soft magnetic material formed thereon.
- 6. A magnetic recording medium wherein a pattern of soft magnetic material corresponding to an information signal is formed on a substrate and beneath and proximate to a flat exterior surface of said magnetic recording medium wherein a tracking servo pattern of a soft magnetic material corresponding to tracking servo signal other than said information signal is further formed.
- 7. A magnetic recording medium wherein a pattern of soft magnetic material corresponding to an information signal is formed on a substrate and beneath and proximate to a flat exterior surface of said magnetic recording medium, wherein the presence or absence of said pattern relative to a direction normal to said surface and along a direction of recording defines said information signal wherein said pattern is formed by concave and convex portions, said convex parts being located closer to said surface than said concave portions.
- 8. The magnetic recording medium of claim 7, wherein a distance of about 1 .mu.m separates said concave portions from said convex portions in a direction normal to said surface.
