- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said adhesion promoting layer is a thermoplastic pressure sensitive adhesive or a water-based pressure sensitive adhesive.
- 6. The method of claim 4 wherein said adhesive comprises at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polyesters, polyurethanes, polyamides, copolymers and terpolymers thereof.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein said adhesion promoting layer is applied to said printable substrate layer substantially simultaneously with said magnetic composition.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein said adhesion promoting layer is pre-applied to said printable substrate layer.
- 9. The method of claim 1 wherein said magnetic composition is extruded from an extruder die head and said adhesion promoting layer is applied by spraying an adhesion promoting composition onto said magnetic layer either prior to or just after said magnetic composition exits said extruder die head.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein said adhesion promoting composition is thermoplastic, thermosetting, water based or solvent based.
- 11. The method of claim 1 wherein said magnetic layer and said adhesion promoting layer are applied in-line and said magnetic layer is applied with a first die head and said adhesion promoting layer is applied using a second die head.
- 12. The method of claim 1 wherein said adhesion promoting layer comprises at least one isocyanate or polyisocyanate and said magnetic composition comprises at least one polyurethane, polyamide or polyether.
- 13. The method of claim 1 wherein said magnetic composition is provided in pellet form.
- 14. The method of claim 1 wherein said thermoplastic binder comprises a polyolefin copolymer.
- 15. The method of claim 14 wherein said thermoplastic binder comprises an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 16. An article which is capable of magnetically self-adhering to a metal surface, the article comprising:
a) a first magnetic layer which is about 50μ to about 765μ thick comprising from about 5 wt-% to about 30 wt-% of at least one thermoplastic binder and about 70 wt-% to about 95 wt-% of at least one magnetic material; b) a second layer of a printable material; and c) a third layer between said first magnetic layer and said second layer for promoting adhesion between said first and said second layer, wherein said article is formed in-line while said magnetic layer is at an elevated temperature.
- 17. The article of claim 16 comprising about 5 wt-% to about 25 wt-% of said at least one thermoplastic binder.
- 18. The article of claim 16 wherein said thermoplastic binder comprises at least one polyolefin or copolymer thereof.
- 19. The article of claim 18 wherein said thermoplastic binder comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, copolymers thereof, and mixtures thereof.
- 20. The article of claim 19 wherein said thermoplastic binder comprises at least ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, an ethylene n-buyl acrylate copolymer, an ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer, an interpolymer of ethylene and at least one alphaolefin, or mixtures thereof.
- 21. The article of claim 16 wherein said thermoplastic binder comprises an amorphous polyalphaolefin or copolymer thereof.
- 22. The article of claim 16 wherein said thermoplastic binder comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of a polyolefin and copolymers thereof, an interpolymer of ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin, and mixtures thereof.
- 23. The article of claim 16 wherein said third layer is an adhesive, a primer, a tie layer, or a combination thereof.
- 24. The article of claim 16 wherein said third layer is a pressure sensitive adhesive.
- 25. The article of claim 16 wherein said third layer comprises at least one isocyanate or polyisocyanate.
- 26. The article of claim 16 wherein said magnetic material has the following general formula:
