Claims
- 1. A process for producing a bulk magnetoresistance effect material, comprising the steps of:
- casting a molten composition represented by the general formula T.sub.100-A M.sub.A, where T is at least one ferromagnetic element selected from the group consisting of Cu and Au, up to 25 atomic percent of T being substituted with at least one transition element other than Cu, Au, Co, Fe, or Ni, and M is at least one paramagnetic or diamagnetic element selected from the group consisting of Co, Fe, and Ni, up to 25 atomic percent of M being partially substituted with at least one transition element other than Cu, Au, Co, Fe, and Ni; wherein A is in the range, 1.ltoreq.A.ltoreq.50 atomic percent; and
- subjecting the resulting casting to homogenization, followed by heat treatment the homogenization being conducted at a temperature T.sub.1 which is in the range: (Tm-200).degree.K<T.sub.1 <(Tm-5).degree.K, Tm being the melting point of the material, and for a time t.sub.1 which is in the range: 0.5 hour<t.sub.1 <24 hours, and the heat treatment being conducted at a temperature T.sub.2 which is in the range: 673.degree.K.ltoreq.T.sub.2 .ltoreq.973.degree.K for a time t.sub.2 which is in the range: 5 minutes.ltoreq.t.sub.2 24 hours;
- the resulting magnetoresistance effect material having a thickness of 0.1 to 500 mm and containing precipitated ferromagnetic particles having a size of from about 1 to about 1000 nm.
- 2. A process for producing a bulk magnetoresistance effect material as claimed in claim 1, wherein said general formula is represented by Cu.sub.100-X-Y-Z Co.sub.X FE.sub.Y Ni.sub.Z, wherein X, Y, and Z are each an atomic percentage, provided that 1.ltoreq.X.ltoreq.50, 1.ltoreq.Y.ltoreq.50, 1X.ltoreq.50, 1.ltoreq.X+Y+Z.ltoreq.50, Y/(Y+Z)>0.05, and X/X+Z)>0.2.
