Claims
- 1. A method of recognizing a transponder designed to act as payment for goods or services, the method comprising:
acquiring identification information from a transponder presented as payment during a transaction for goods or services; associating the identification information with MICR data to be used to uniquely identify a checking account; and accepting or declining the transaction based on one or more characteristics of the transaction.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more characteristics of the transaction include whether the MICR data is valid.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the MICR data is valid when it can be converted into information used by clearinghouse systems to transfer funds.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more characteristics of the transaction include whether an assessed risk of the transaction is within predetermined parameters.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the assessed risk includes an evaluation of historical transaction information.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the historical transaction information includes negative transaction information.
- 7. The method of claim 5, wherein the historical transaction information includes positive transaction information.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more characteristics of the transaction include whether the transaction will be guaranteed.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting the identification information to a gateway system, and wherein the gateway system associates the MICR data.
- 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting the MICR data to a gateway system.
- 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting information to a gateway system, and wherein the gateway system determines whether to accept or decline the transaction.
- 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the transponder comprises a wireless device.
- 13. A method of enrolling a user into a system providing for the payment of goods or services through the presentation of a transponder, the method comprising:
acquiring information identifying a user attempting to enroll into a system providing for the payment of goods or services from a checking account of the user through the presentation of a transponder; acquiring MICR data corresponding to the checking account; acquiring an indication of a risk associated with accepting the user; and enrolling the user when the indication of the risk is within at least one predetermined parameter.
- 14. The method of claim 13, further comprising issuing the transponder to the user.
- 15. The method of claim 13, wherein the information includes information found on the user's driver's license.
- 16. The method of claim 13, wherein the information includes information demographic information.
- 17. The method of claim 13, wherein the information includes biometric information.
- 18. The method of claim 13, wherein the information includes password information.
- 19. The method of claim 13, wherein the information MICR is acquired through a check scanner.
- 20. The method of claim 13, wherein the indication of the risk is acquired through a transaction processor.
- 21. A merchant computing system comprising:
a receiver configured to receive information from a wireless device presented by a user as payment for goods or services; and one or more computing devices connected to the receiver, which receive the information, generate a transaction request to debit funds from a checking account of the user, receive a report relating to the transaction request, and when the transaction report is within predetermined parameters, confirm the transaction request such that the funds are debited.
- 22. The merchant computing system of claim 21, further comprising one or more databases storing MICR data usable to identify the user's checking account, wherein the one or more computing devices associates the MICR data with the information from the wireless device.
- 23. The merchant computing system of claim 21, wherein the information comprises MICR data.
- 24. The merchant computing system of claim 21, wherein the wireless device comprises a transponder.
- 25. The merchant computing system of claim 21, wherein the transaction request includes a transaction time.
- 26. The merchant computing system of claim 21, wherein the transaction request includes a transaction place.
- 27. The merchant computing system of claim 21, wherein the transaction request includes a transaction date.
- 28. The merchant computing system of claim 21, wherein the transaction request includes a merchant's identification number.
- 29. The merchant computing system of claim 21, wherein the transaction request includes a merchant's location.
- 30. A computing system comprising;
means for determining information from the presentation by a payor of a wireless device as payment as payment for goods or services; means for formatting a transaction request to debit funds from a checking account of the user; means for receiving a report relating to the transaction request; and means for confirming the transaction request such that the funds are debited when the transaction report is within predetermined parameters.
