Claims
- 1. A method for automatically selecting a plate for imaging in an automated plate handler, comprising the steps of:
- a. automatically positioning a plurality of stacks of plates stored in the plate handler and placing a stack of the plate size required for an imaging job in an access position; and
- b. automatically separating and removing a single plate from the stack of plates in the access position and transferring the single plate out of the plate handler for imaging.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the stacks of plates stored in the plate handler are positioned substantially horizontally.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of positioning said plurality of stacks of plates is performed by moving said plates substantially vertically.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of transferring the single plate out of the plate handler is performed by transferring said plate substantially horizontally.
- 5. The method according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the plurality of stacks of plates is a different size than at least one other of the plurality of stacks of plates.
- 6. An apparatus for automatically selecting a plate for imaging in an automated plate handler, comprising:
- an elevator mechanism for positioning a plurality of stacks of plates stored in the plate handler in an access position;
- a support mechanism for selecting one of said plurality of stacks of plates; and
- a shuttle mechanism for removing a single plate from said selected stack of plates in the access position and transferring said plate out of the plate handler for imaging.
- 7. The apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said stack of plates stored in the plate handler are positioned substantially horizontally.
- 8. The apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said stack of plates move substantially vertically.
- 9. The apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said single plate is transferred out of the plate handler substantially horizontally.
- 10. An apparatus for automatically selecting a plate for imaging in an automated plate handler and for removing a slip sheet from the plate handler, comprising at least one suction tube mounted on a first pivoting shaft mounted for rotation in a bracket secured to the plate handler, said suction tube for attaching to a slip sheet on the top of a stack of plates and completely removing the slip sheet from the stack of plates.
- 11. The apparatus according to claim 10, further comprising at least one finger member mounted on a second pivoting shaft mounted for rotation in the bracket, said finger member holding down the slip sheet to the stack of plates in a holding position and allowing the suction tube to lift and remove the slip sheet from the stack of plates.
