Claims
- 1. An optical connector cleaning tool comprising:
an insertion card; and, a cleaning guide positioned by the insertion card adjacent the optical connector.
- 2. The tool of claim 1 wherein the guide is a tube.
- 3. The tool of claim 1 wherein the insertion card replaces a system card in an optical network system.
- 4. The tool of claim 1 further comprising a connector receiver attached to the guide adjacent the connector.
- 5. The tool of claim 4 wherein the connector and the connector receiver are connected.
- 6. The tool of claim 4 wherein the connector receiver is rigidly attached to the card.
- 7. The tool of claim 4 wherein the connector receiver is a multi-fiber type.
- 8. The tool of claim 1 wherein the guide is rigidly attached to the card.
- 9. The tool of claim 1 wherein the guide is rigid.
- 10. The tool of claim 1 wherein the guide is a plastic tube.
- 11. The tool of claim 1 wherein the guide is an inert material.
- 12. The tool of claim 1 wherein the guide is sized to allow entry of a cleaning swab.
- 13. The tool of claim 1 wherein the guide is sized to allow entry of a scope.
- 14. The tool of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of cleaning guides.
- 15. The tool of claim 1 wherein the connector contains a set number of optical multi fiber connectors.
- 16. The tool of claim 15 wherein the connector receiver contains a corresponding set number of cleaning bays.
- 17. The tool of claim 16 wherein the bays are sealed.
- 18. An optical connector cleaning tool comprising:
a receiver connected to the optical connector; and, a guide connected to the receiver.
- 19. The tool of claim 18 wherein the guide is a sealed pathway having an open end.
- 20. The tool of claim 18 wherein the guide is a generally tubular member.
- 21. The tool of claim 18 wherein the guide is a means for directing a cleaning implement to the optical connector.
- 22. The tool of claim 18 wherein the cleaning implement incorporates a scope.
- 23. The tool of claim 18 wherein the cleaning implement is a swab.
- 24. The tool of claim 18 wherein the cleaning implement is a dynamic cleaner.
- 25. The tool of claim 18 wherein the receiver and guide are attached to an insertion card.
- 26. The tool of claim 25 wherein the insertion card is dimensioned to attach to an optical system backplane.
- 27. The tool of claim 18 wherein the optical connector is attached to an optical system backplane.
- 28. The tool of claim 18 further comprising a plurality of receivers each having a guide connected thereto.
- 29. The tool of claim 18 wherein the connector contains a set number of optical multi fiber connectors.
- 30. The tool of claim 29 wherein the receiver contains a corresponding set number of cleaning bays.
- 31. A method of cleaning an optical connector comprising the steps of:
positioning a cleaning guide adjacent the connector; guiding a cleaning implement to the connector with the cleaning guide; using the cleaning implement.
- 32. The method of claim 31 wherein the step of positioning includes positioning a plurality of cleaning guides adjacent the connector.
- 33. The method of claim 31 wherein the implement is a scope to inspect the connector.
- 34. The method of claim 31 wherein the implement is a swab to clean the connector.
- 35. The method of claim 31 wherein the implement moves to clean the connector.
- 36. The method of claim 31 wherein the step of using includes using a solvent.
- 37. The method of claim 31 wherein the step of positioning includes inserting a cleaning card attached to the cleaning guide into the backplane of a shelf in an optical system.
- 38. The method of claim 31 wherein the cleaning guide includes a connector receiver.
- 39. The method of claim 31 wherein the cleaning guide includes a tube.
- 40. The method of claim 31 wherein the step of positioning includes attaching the cleaning guide to the connector.
