Claims
- 1. A circuit board assembly for a sensor comprising:
a first board having a first mounting portion; a second board having a second mounting portion; and at least one connector cooperating with said first and second mounting portions to position one of said first or second boards generally perpendicular to said other of said first or second boards.
- 2. An assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first board comprises a main printed circuit board and said second board comprises an auxiliary printed circuit board with said connector providing an electrical contact between the main and auxiliary printed circuit boards.
- 3. An assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first mounting portion is located at an edge of said first board and said second mounting portion is located at an edge of said second board.
- 4. An assembly as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first mounting portion comprises at least one aperture for receiving one end of said connector.
- 5. An assembly as set forth in claim 4 wherein said second mounting portion comprises a generally flat mounting surface and wherein an opposite end of said connector engages said mounting surface.
- 6. An assembly as set forth in claim 4 wherein said opposite end comprises a clip portion that grippingly engages said second mounting portion.
- 7. An assembly as set forth in claim 6 wherein said second board includes a first planar surface and an opposing second planer surface and wherein said second mounting portion comprises a portion of said first and second planar surfaces positioned along one edge of said second board.
- 8. An assembly as set forth in claim 7 wherein said clip portion includes a first leg for resiliently engaging said first planar surface and a second leg for resiliently engaging said second planar surface.
- 9. An assembly as set forth in claim 6 wherein said aperture is defined by a first cross-section and said one end of said connector is defined by a second cross-section different than said first cross-section.
- 10. An assembly as set forth in claim 9 including a first solder portion between said one end of said connector and said first mounting portion and a second solder portion at said clip portion and said second mounting portion.
- 11. A sensor assembly comprising:
a main circuit board supported by a vehicle structure and having a first mounting portion; an auxiliary circuit board having a second mounting portion; and at least one connector having a first end for attachment to said first mounting portion and a second end for resiliently engaging said second mounting portion to attach said auxiliary circuit board to said main circuit board wherein said connector provides an electrical contact between said main and auxiliary circuit boards.
- 12. An assembly as set forth in claim 11 wherein said at least one connector comprises a plurality of connectors spaced apart from each other along one edge of said auxiliary circuit board.
- 13. An assembly as set forth in claim 11 wherein said auxiliary circuit board is mounted approximately ninety degrees relative to said main circuit board.
- 14. An assembly as set forth in claim 11 wherein said second end comprises a hook portion for engaging opposing sides of said auxiliary circuit board.
- 15. An assembly as set forth in claim 14 wherein said first end is defined by a non-circular cross-section and is received within an aperture defined by a curvilinear surface in said main circuit board.
- 16. An assembly as set forth in claim 15 wherein said hook portion is generally U-shaped with a transversely extending distal end extending away from said auxiliary circuit board.
- 17. A method for attaching a main circuit board to an auxiliary circuit board comprising the steps of:
(a) attaching a first end of a connector to a main circuit board; (b) orientating an auxiliary circuit board generally ninety degrees relative to the main circuit board; and (c) sliding one edge of the auxiliary circuit board into a grip formed at a second end of the connector to electrically connect the main circuit board to the auxiliary circuit board.
- 18. A method as set forth in claim 17 wherein step (c) further includes engaging opposing sides of the auxiliary circuit board with the grip.
- 19. A method as set forth in claim 18 wherein step (a) further includes forming a generally curvilinear opening adjacent one edge of the main circuit board, forming the first end with a non-circular cross-section, inserting the first end into the opening, and soldering the first end to the main circuit board.
- 20. A method as set forth in claim 19 further including forming the connector with a generally linear body member extending from the first end toward the grip and forming the grip as a generally U-shaped hook portion having a first leg extending out from the linear body member toward the first end and a second leg extending away from the first end with the first and second legs being interconnected with a curved base portion.
