Claims
- 1. An image forming device having a portion, comprising:a circulator to circulate air into and out of the portion; an environmental unit that alters the temperature and relative humidity of the air which is circulated; and a controller that maintains the temperature of the air in the portion within a desired temperature range and a desired absolute humidity range.
- 2. The device of claim 1, wherein the controller maintains the absolute humidity below 40 grains of water.
- 3. The device of claim 1 wherein the portion is an enclosed xerographic module.
- 4. The device of claim 3, wherein the temperature range in the xerographic module is maintained in a temperature range of from 85° F. to 105° F.
- 5. The device of claim 1, wherein the controller maintaining the air pressure within the portion at a pressure above that of the air outside the portion to create a positive pressure differential from the inside to the outside of the portion.
- 6. The device of claim 1, whereinthe environmental unit includes an evaporator coil and an air conditioner having a high pressure side and a low pressure side; and the controller includes a hot gas heater that uses the heat of compression from the high-pressure side of the air conditioner to heat air from the evaporator coil before circulating air is returned to the portion.
- 7. The device of claim 1, wherein the pressure inside the portion is maintained at a value of about 0.25 inch of water.
- 8. The device of claim 1, wherein the air returned to the portion is returned at about 300 cubic feet per minute.
- 9. The device of claim 1, wherein the circulator includes a component to add make up air to the circulating air.
- 10. An image forming device having an enclosed xerographic module, comprising:a circulator to circulate air into and out of the enclosed xerographic module; an environmental unit to alter the temperature and relative humidity of the air which is circulated; wherein the circulator recycles the air in the enclosed xerographic module through a closed cycle loop with air conditioning if the temperature of the enclosed xerographic module is above both the saturation temperature and a reference temperature of the air in the enclosed xerographic module.
- 11. An image forming device having an enclosed xerographic module, comprising:a circulator to circulate air into and out of the enclosed xerographic module; an environmental unit to alter the temperature and relative humidity of the air which is circulated; wherein the circulator recycles the air in the enclosed xerographic module through a closed cycle loop without air conditioning if the enclosed xerographic module temperature is above the saturation temperature inside the enclosed xerographic module but is less than or equal to a set point/control temperature of the air in the enclosed xerographic module.
- 12. An image forming device having an enclosed xerographic module, comprising:a circulator to circulate air into and out of the enclosure; an environmental unit to alter the temperature and relative humidity of the air which is circulated; wherein the circulator recycles the air in the enclosed xerographic module through an open cycle loop with air conditioning if the enclosed xerographic module temperature is equal to or below the saturation temperature in the enclosed xerographic module but is above a reference temperature of the air in the enclosed xerographic module.
- 13. An image forming device having an enclosed xerographic module, comprising:a circulator to circulate air into and out of the enclosed xerographic module; an environmental unit to alter the temperature and relative humidity of the air which is circulated; means for recycling the air in the enclosed xerographic module through an open cycle loop without air conditioning if the enclosed xerographic module temperature is equal to or less than both the saturation temperature and a reference temperature of the air in the enclosed xerographic module.
- 14. An environmental control unit for an image forming device having an enclosed xerographic module, comprising:a circulator to circulate air into and out of the enclosed xerographic module; an environmental unit to alter the temperature and relative humidity of the air which is circulated; means for maintaining the temperature of the air in the enclosed xerographic module within a desired temperature range and a desired absolute humidity range below 40 grains of water.
