Claims
- 1. A device for presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and defining a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the device comprising:
- display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- sensing means for sensing the occurrence of a copying operation performed by the copier at a plurality of sensing positions within the copier duplication field, and
- control means, responsive to the sensing means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation at each of the plurality of sensing positions within the copier duplication field,
- the sensing means comprising a plurality of copy detection sensors, at least one of the copy detection sensors comprising:
- receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source,
- detection means for detecting light received by the receptor means,
- conduction means for conducting light from the receptor means to the detection means, and
- valve means for regulating the conduction of light through the conduction means,
- wherein light from the copier light source defines an intensity and a duration and comprising means for prolonging at least one of the intensity and the duration of the light from the copier light source at at least one of the sensing positions,
- wherein the means for prolonging comprises phosphorescent material associated with the receptor means, and
- wherein the phosphorescent material emits light at a wavelength to which the photodetector is maximally sensitive.
- 2. A device for presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and defining a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the device comprising:
- display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- sensing means for sensing the occurrence of a copying operation performed by the copier at a plurality of sensing positions within the copier duplication field, and
- control means, responsive to the sensing means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation at each of the plurality of sensing positions within the copier duplication field,
- the sensing means comprising a plurality of copy detection sensors, at least one of the copy detection sensors comprising;
- receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source,
- detection means for detecting light received by the receptor means,
- conduction means for conducting light from the receptor means to the detection means, and
- valve means for regulating the conduction of light through the conduction means,
- wherein light from the copier light source defines an intensity and a duration and comprising means for prolonging at least one of the intensity and the duration of the light from the copier light source at at least one of the sensing positions, and
- wherein the means for prolonging includes a charged coupled device.
- 3. A device for presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and defining a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the device comprising:
- display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- sensing means for sensing the occurrence of a copying operation performed by the copier at a plurality of sensing positions within the copier duplication field, and
- control means, responsive to the sensing means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation at each of the plurality of sensing positions within the copier duplication field,
- the sensing means comprising a plurality of copy detecting sensors, at least one of the copy detection sensors comprising:
- receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source,
- detection means for detecting light received by the receptor means,
- conduction means for conducting light from the receptor means to the detection means, and
- valve means for regulating the conduction of light trough the conduction means,
- wherein light from the copier light source defines an intensity and a duration and comprising means for prolonging at least one of the intensity and the duration of the light from the copier light source at at least one of the sensing positions,
- wherein the means for prolonging includes an element capable of forming a persistent, altered state in response to exposure to light from the copier light source.
- 4. The device according to claim 3 including means for sequentially sampling the persistent, altered state at each of the receptor positions to thereby determine whether exposure to light from the copier light source has occurred at each of the receptor positions.
- 5. A method of presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and of defining a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the method comprising:
- providing display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- providing a plurality of receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source at a plurality of positions within the copier duplication field,
- providing detection means for detecting light received by the plurality of receptor means,
- providing conduction means for conducting light from the receptor means to the detection means,
- providing a plurality of valve means for regulating the conduction of light through the conduction means, each of the plurality of valve means defining a light blocking state and a light passing state, wherein light received by the plurality of receptor means and conducted through the conduction means does not reach the detection means when the valve means is in the light blocking state,
- providing control means, responsive to the detection means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation,
- sequentially switching each of the plurality of valve means into a light passing state for a predetermined interval, whereby
- the detection means detects light received by each of the plurality of receptor means in sequence.
- 6. A method of presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and of defining a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the method comprising:
- providing display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- providing a plurality of receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source at a plurality of positions within the copier duplication field,
- providing detection means for detecting light received by the plurality of receptor means,
- providing conduction means for conducting light from the receptor means to the detection means,
- providing a plurality of valve means for regulating the conduction of light through the conduction means, each of the plurality of valve means defining a light blocking state and a light passing state, wherein light received by the plurality of receptor means and conducted through the conduction means does not reach the detection means when the valve means is in the light blocking state,
- providing control means, responsive to the detection means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation,
- sequentially switching each of the plurality of valve means into a light passing state for a predetermined interval, whereby the detection means detects light received by each of the plurality of receptor means in sequence,
- confirming the detection of light from the copier light source by each of the pluratlity of receptor means, and
- delaying the copying operation until the detection of light from the copier light source by each of the plurality of receptor means has been confirmed.
- 7. A method of presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and of defining a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the method comprising:
- providing display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- providing a plurality of receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source at a plurality of positions within the copier duplication field,
- providing detection means for detecting light received by the plurality of receptor means,
- providing conduction means for conducting light from the receptor means to the detection means,
- providing a plurality of valve means for regulating the conduction of light through the conduction means, each of the plurality of valve means defining a light blocking state and a light passing state, wherein light received by the plurality of receptor means and conducted through the conduction means does not reach the detection means when the valve means is in the light blocking state,
- providing control means, responsive to the detection means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation,
- sequentially switching each of the plurality of valve means into a light passing state for a predetermined interval, whereby
- the detection means detects light received by each of the plurality of receptor means in sequence,
- confirming the detection of light from the copier light source by each of the plurality of receptor means, and
- halting the copying operation if the detection of light from the copier light source is not confirmed at each of the plurality of receptor means.
- 8. A method as in claim 7 including the step of:
- issuing an audible warning tone indicating that the detection of light from the copier light source is not confirmed at each of the plurality of receptor means.
- 9. A device for presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and of defining a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the device comprising;
- display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- sensing means for sensing the occurrence of a copying operation performed by the copier at a plurality of sensing positions within the copier duplication field,
- a memory for storing information corresponding to a plurality of different copiers,
- exhibition means for exhibiting the information corresponding to the plurality o different copiers,
- selection means for selecting the identification information corresponding to the copier from among the exhibited listed,
- activation means, responsive to the selection means, for activating one of the plurality of copy detection sensors to perform copy detection,
- control means, responsive to the activated sensing means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation at the activated sensing position within the copier duplication field.
- 10. A device as in claim 9 wherein the copier light source comprises a scanning light source, wherein the display means defines a trailing edge relative to the scanning light source, and wherein the activation means further comprises means for activating the copy detection sensor located nearest the trailing edge o the display means.
- 11. An apparatus for presenting images to a copier through a copier window to enable reproduction of the images by the copier, the apparatus comprising:
- display means for displaying images through the copier window;
- detecting means including a plurality of sensors for detecting the occurrence o a copying operation performed by the copier and for detecting the occurrence of error conditions arising during the copying process;
- control means, responsive to the detecting means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the detection of a copying operation and to display a second image following the detection of a copying operation by each of the plurality of sensors; and
- miscopy protection means for halting the display of images subsequent to the detection of an error condition by the detecting means.
- 12. An apparatus for translating electrical signals representing first and second images to first and second images receivable by a copier through a copier window, the apparatus comprising:
- receiving means for receiving the electrical signals,
- display means, operatively connected with the receiving means, for displaying the first and second images represented by the electrical signals through the copier window;
- detecting means including a plurality of sensors for detecting the occurrence of a copying operation performed by the copier and for detecting the occurrence of error conditions arising during the copying process;
- control means, responsive to the detecting means, for controlling the display means to display the first image prior to the detection of a copying operation and to display the second image following the detection of a copying operation by each of the plurality of sensors; and
- microscopy protection means for halting the display of images subsequent to the detection of an error condition by the detecting means.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the first and second images are produced at a location remote from the translating apparatus and are transmitted to the translating apparatus for reproduction on the copier.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the receiving means comprises at least one of a computer, a data storage medium reader, a magnetic recording medium reader, an optical recording medium reader and a telephone facsimile device.
- 15. An apparatus for presenting images to a copier through a copier window to enable reproduction of the images by the copier, the apparatus comprising:
- display means for displaying images through the copier window;
- detecting means including a plurality of sensors for detecting the occurrence of a copying operation performed by the copier and for detecting the occurrence of error conditions arising during the copying process;
- control means, responsive to the detecting means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the detection of a copying operation and to display a second image following the detection of a copying operation by each of the plurality of sensors;
- miscopy protection means for halting the display of images subsequent to the detection of an error condition by the detecting means; and
- warning means for alerting that a miscopy condition has been detected.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 15 wherein the warning means includes issuance of at least an audible tone to signify detection of a miscopy condition.
- 17. An apparatus for translating electrical signals representing first and second images to first and second images receivable by a copier through a copier window, the apparatus comprising:
- receiving means for receiving the electrical signals,
- display means, operatively connected with the receiving means, for displaying the first and second images represented by the electrical signals through the copier window;
- detecting means including a plurality of sensors for detecting the occurrence of a copying operation performed by the copier and for detecting the occurrence of error conditions arising during the copying process;
- control means, responsive to the detecting means, for controlling the display means to display the first image prior to the detection of a copying operation and to display the second image following the detection of a copying operation by each of the plurality of sensors;
- miscopy protection means for halting the display of images subsequent to the detection of an error condition by the detecting means; and
- warning means for alerting that a miscopy condition has been detected.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the first and second images are produced at a location remote from the translating apparatus and are transmitted to the translating apparatus for reproduction on the copier.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the warning means includes issuance of at least an audible tone to signify detection of a miscopy condition.
- 20. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the receiving means comprises at least one of a computer, a data storage medium reader, a magnetic recording medium reader, an optical recording medium reader and a telephone facsimile device.
- 21. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the warning means includes issuance of at least an audible tone to signify detection of a miscopy condition.
- 22. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the warning means includes issuance of at least an audible tone to signify detection of a miscopy condition.
- 23. An apparatus for presenting images to a copier through a copier window to enable reproduction of the images by the copier, the apparatus comprising:
- display means for displaying images through the copier window;
- detecting means including a plurality of sensors for detecting the occurrence of error conditions arising during the copying operation; and
- control means, responsive to the detecting means, for preventing the display of images subsequent to the detection of an error condition.
- 24. An apparatus for translating electrical signals representing first and second images to first and second images receivable by a copier through a copier window, the apparatus comprising:
- receiving means for receiving the electrical signals,
- display means, operatively connected with the receiving means, for displaying the first and second images represented by the electrical signals through the copier window;
- detecting means including a plurality of sensors for detecting the occurrence of error conditions arising during the copying operation; and
- control means, responsive to the detecting means, for preventing the display of images subsequent to the detection of an error condition.
- 25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the fist and second images are produced at a location remote from the translating apparatus and are transmitted to the translating apparatus for reproduction on the copier.
- 26. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the receiving means comprises at least one of a computer, a data storage medium reader, a magnetic recording medium reader, an optical recording medium reader and a telephone facsimile device.
- 27. A method of presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and of having a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the method comprising:
- providing display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- providing a plurality of receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source at a plurality of positions within the copier duplication field,
- providing charge coupled device means in association with at least one of the plurality of receptor means for forming a persistent, altered state in response to copier light exposure,
- providing detection means for detecting the receipt of light by at least one of the plurality of receptor means,
- providing control means, responsive to the detection means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation,
- sequentially sampling each of the plurality of receptor means for the presence of a persistent, altered state to determine whether exposure occurred at each of the plurality of receptor means, whereby the detection means detects the receipt of light by each of the plurality of receptor means in sequence.
- 28. The method as in claim 27 wherein the persistent, altered state formed in response to copier light exposure includes a charged state.
- 29. A method of presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and having a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the method comprising:
- providing display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- providing a plurality of receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source at a plurality of positions within the copier duplication field,
- providing charge coupled device means associated with at least one of the plurality of receptor means for forming charged states in response to light exposure,
- providing detection means for detecting the receipt of light by at least one of the plurality of receptor means,
- providing control means, responsive to the detection mans, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following sensing of a copying operation,
- sequentially sampling each of the plurality of receptor means for the presence of charged states to determine whether exposure occurred at each of the plurality of receptor means, whereby the detection means detects the receipt of light by each of the plurality of receptor means in sequence.
- 30. A method of presenting a plurality of images to a copier to enable reproduction of the plurality of images by the copier, the copier being capable of performing a copying operation and of having a copier light source, a copier window and a copier duplication field, the method comprising:
- providing display means for displaying a plurality of images through the copier window,
- providing a plurality of receptor means for receiving light from the copier light source at a plurality of positions within the copier duplication field,
- providing means associated with at least one of the plurality of receptor means for forming a persistent, altered state in response to copier light exposure,
- providing detection means for detecting the receipt of light by at least one of the plurality of receptor means,
- providing control means, responsive to the detection means, for controlling the display means to display a first image prior to the sensing of a copying operation and to display a second image following the sensing of a copying operation,
- sequentially sampling each of the plurality of receptor means for the presence of a persistent, altered state to determine whether exposure occurred at each of the plurality of receptor means, whereby the detection means detects the receipt of light by each of the plurality of receptor means in sequence.
