Claims
- 1. A method of estimating a temperature of an exhaust gas purification system in an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, comprising the steps of:
- (a) determining a temperature of the exhaust gas purification system in a steady state based on driving condition of said engine;
- (b) providing the determined temperature of the exhaust gas purification system in a steady state to a plurality of different heat transfer delay models; and
- (c) producing a signal representing an estimated temperature of the exhaust gas purification system by combining outputs of said heat transfer delay models.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein the temperature of the exhaust gas purification system in a steady state is determined on the basis of at least one of an engine coolant temperature and intake air temperature of said engine during a predetermined time period after a start of said engine.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, wherein no estimation for said temperature is made during a predetermined dead time period after a start of said engine.
- 4. A method according to claim 3, wherein the temperature of the exhaust gas purification system in a steady state in said dead time period is set to zero.
- 5. A method according to claim 3, wherein said dead time period is determined according to a driving condition of said engine before or after a start of said engine.
- 6. A method according to claim 3, wherein said dead time period is determined on the basis of at least one of an engine coolant temperature, an intake air temperature, a cumulative supplied fuel amount valve after the start of engine and a cumulative load value after the start of engine.
- 7. A method according to claim 6, further comprising the step of
- (d) correcting said signal representing an estimated temperature of the exhaust gas purification system on the basis of at least one of a vehicle speed, an intake air temperature and n engine coolant temperature.
- 8. A method according to claim 6, wherein values of gains of said heat transfer delay models are set for individual models so as to set a total gain within said steps (a)-(b) for one.
