Claims
- 1. For use in an image-forming apparatus having image-forming means, the improvement comprising apparatus for image-signal formation and adapted for input connection to said imate-forming means, and which apparatus comprises
- means for forming a composite modulated envelope-forming image-representative signal from two AC modulatable carrier signal trains of different wave form character, one of said AC modulatable carrier signal trains being a sine wave signal and the other being a triangular wave signal,
- said means for forming comprising means for combining at least one of said two AC carrier signal trains of different wave-form character in modulating relation with at least one varying DC modulation signal which varies in magnitude over a time span longer than a multiple number of cycles of said carrier signal according to the outline of a portion of an area designed to be imaged to form a DC-modulated AC carrier signal having an envelope carrier frequency corresponding to said AC carrier signal trains and external modulated envelope corresponding to said DC modulation signal,
- said two AC carrier signal trains being in-phase, of the same frequency, and in time-overlapping relation so as to form a spiked sine wave in the zone of said time-overlapping relation, in which the overall spike amplitude is a function of the algebraic addition of said sine wave and said triangular wave.
- 2. Apparatus according to claim 1,
- said means for forming comprising means for combining both of said two AC carrier signal trains of different wave form character in modulating relation with at least one varying DC modulation signal which varies in magnitude according to the outline of a portion of an area desired to be imaged.
- 3. For use in an image-forming apparatus having image-foriming means, the improvement comprising apparatus for image-signal formation and adapted for input connection to said image-forming means, and which apparatus comprises
- means for forming a composite modulated envelope-forming image-representative signal from two AC modulatable carrier signal trains which are of different wave-form character,
- and means for forming comprising means for combining at least one of said two AC carrier signal trains of different wave-form character in modulating relation with at least one varying DC modulation signal which varies in magnitude over a time span longer than a multiple number of cycles of said carrier signal according to the outline of a portion of an area desired to be imaged to form a DC modulated AC carrier signal having an envelope carrier frequency corresponding to said AC carrier signal trains and external modulated envelope corresponding to said DC modulation signal,
- said two AC carrier signal trains being in-phase, of the same frequency, and in time-overlapping relation so as to form a spiked sine wave in the zone of said time-overlapping relation, in which the overall spike amplitude is a function of the algebraic addition of said sine wave and said triangular wave.
- 4. Apparatus according to claim 3,
- one of said AC modulation signal trains being other than a sine wave signal.
- 5. Apparatus according to claim 3,
- said means for forming comprising means for combining both of said two AC carrier signal trains of different wave-form character in modulating relation with at least one varying DC modulation signal which varies in magnitude according to the outline of a portion of an area desired to be imaged.
- 6. Apparatus according to claim 3,
- said means for forming incuding means for algebraically combining said two in-phase AC carrier signals of different wave form character prior to modulation by said one varying DC modulation signal.
- 7. Apparatus according to claim 2,
- and image display means for displaying an image as a function of said composite modulated envelope-forming image-representative signal.
- 8. For use in an image-forming apparatus having image-forming means, the improvement comprising apparatus for image-signal formation and adapted for input connection to said image-forming means, and which apparatus comprises
- means for forming a composite modulated envelope-forming image-representative signal from two AC modulatable carrier signal trains of different wave form character, one of said AC modulatable carrier signal trains being a sine wave signal and the other being a triangular wave signal,
- said means for forming comprising means for combining each of said two AC carrier signal trains of different wave-form character in modulating relation with at least one respective varying DC modulation signal which varies in magnitude over a time span longer than a multiple number of cycles of said carrier signal according to the outline of a respective portion of an area desired to be imaged to form a DC modulated AC carrier signal having an envelope carrier frequency corresponding to said AC carrier signal trains and external modulated envelope corresponding to said DC modulation signal, and means for algebraically combining the resultant modulated said in-phase AC carrier signal trains,
- said two AC carrier signal trains being in-phase, of the same frequency, and in time-overlapping relation so as to form a spiked sine wave in the zone of said time-overlapping relation, in which the overall spike amplitude is a function of the algebraic addition of said sine wave and said triangular wave.
- 9. Apparatus according to claim 8,
- and image display means for displaying an image as a function of said composite modulated envelope-forming image-representative signal.
- 10. For use in an image-forming apparatus having image-forming means, the improvement comprising apparatus for image-signal formation and adapted for input connection to said image-forming means, and which apparatus comprises
- means for forming a composite envelope-forming signal from two inphase AC carrier signals which are of different wave-form character,
- means for forming a component portion of said composite envelope-forming signal from an AC carrier signal, a portion of which comprises a repetitive triangular wave form,
- and means for forming a trace displacement ramp sweep signal having a ramp duration during one occurrence of at least as long as the duration of a multiple number of cycles of said in-phase AC carrier signals.
- 11. For use in an image-forming apparatus having image-forming means, the improvement comprising apparatus for image-signal formation and adapted for input connection to said image-forming means, and which apparatus comprises
- means for forming a composite envelope-forming signal from two in-phase AC carrier signals which are of different wave-form character,
- means for forming a component portion of said composite envelope-forming signal from an AC carrier signal a portion of which comprises a repetitive square wave form,
- and means for forming a trace displacement ramp sweep signal having a ramp duration during one occurrence of at least as long as the duration of a multiple number of cycles of said in-phase AC carrier signals.
- 12. Apparatus according to claim 1,
- in which in said means for combining, said DC modulation signal is combined with said triangular wave signal train prior to forming the composite said modulated envelope-forming signal from said two carrier signal trains.
- 13. Apparatus according to claim 1,
- in which in said means for combining, said DC modulation signal is combined with said sine wave signal train prior to forming the composite said modulated envelope-forming signal from said two carrier signal trains.
- 14. Apparatus according to claim 1,
- in which in said means for combining, a respective DC modulation signal is combined with each of said triangular and sine wave signal trains prior to forming the composite said modulated envelope-forming signal from said two carrier signal trains.
- 15. Apparatus according to any one of claims 1-9 and 12-14, further comprising
- image-forming means for forming an image having an outline varying as a function of said composite modulated envelope-forming image-representative signal.
- 16. Apparatus according to any one of claims 1-9 and 12-14,
- said varying DC modulation signal being repetitive and varying during one repetition over a time span longer than a multiple number of cycles of said carrier signal, whereby a repetitive DC-modulated multiple cycle AC carrier signal envelope is formed whose envelope outline is a function of said repetitive DC modulation signal.
- 17. Apparatus according to any one of claims 1-9 and 12-14, further comprising
- image-forming means for forming an image having an outline varying as a function of said composite modulated envelope-forming image-representative signal,
- said varying DC modulation signal being repetitive and varying during one repetition over a time span longer than a multiple number of cycles of said carrier signal, whereby a repetitive DC-modulated multiple cycle AC carrier signal envelope is formed whose envelope outline is a function of said repetitive DC modulation signal.
- 18. A method of image signal formation for use in enabling display of an image, comprising
- forming a composite peak-to-peak outline envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for feeding to one X-Y coordinate input of an X-Y coordinate trace display device having X and Y displacement inputs, from two time-overlapping variable DC component-area-representative signals by modulating at least one AC carrier signal having a plurality of cyclical repetitions during a given occurrence of said DC component-area-representative signals, said modulating being effected as a function of said two time-overlapping DC component-area-representative signals,
- forming a trace displacement ramp sweep signal having a ramp duration during one occurrence of at least as long as the duration of said composite envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for one complete area-representative signal representation by said image-representative modulated AC carrier signal, for feeding to the other of said two X and Y displacement inputs of a said X-Y coordinate trace display device,
- and forming said composite envelope-forming image-representative signal from two in-phase carrier signals of different type, one of said carrier signals being a sine wave signal and the other being a triangular wave signal.
- 19. A method of image signal formation for use in enabling display of an image, comprising
- forming a composite peak-to-peak outline envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for feeding to one X-Y coordinate input of an X-Y coordinate trace display device having X and Y displacement inputs, from two time-overlapping variable DC component-area-representative signals by modulating at least one AC carrier signal having a plurality of cyclical repetitions during a given occurrence of said DC component-area-representative signals, said modulating being effected as a function of said two time-overlapping DC component-area-representative signals,
- forming a trace displacement ramp sweep signal having a ramp duration during one occurrence of at least as long as the duration of said composite envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for one complete area-representative signal representation by said image-representative modulated AC carrier signal, for feeding to the other of said two X and Y displacement inputs of a said X-Y coordinate trace display device,
- and forming said composite envelope-forming signal from two in-phase carrier signals which are of different wave-form character.
- 20. A method of image signal formation for use in enabling display of an image, comprising
- forming a composite peak-to-peak outline envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for feeding to one X-Y coordinate input of an X-Y coordinate trace display device having X and Y displacement inputs, from two time-overlapping variable DC component-area-representative signals by modulating at least one AC carrier signal having a plurality of cyclical repetitions during a given occurrence of said DC component-area-representative signals, said modulating being effected as a function of said two time-overlapping DC component-area-representative signals,
- forming a trace displacement ramp sweep signal having a ramp duration during one occurrence of at least one long as the duration of said composite envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for one complete area-representative signal representation by said image-representative modulated AC carrier signal, for feeding to the other of said two X and Y displacement inputs of a said X-Y coordinate trace display device,
- and forming a component portion of said composite envelope-forming signal from a repetitive carrier signal, a portion of which comprises a repetitive triangular wave form.
- 21. A method of image signal formation for use in enabling display of an image, comprising
- forming a composite peak-to-peak outline envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for feeding to one X-Y coordinate input of an X-Y coordinate trace display device have X and Y displacement inputs, from two time-overlapping variable DC component-area-representative signals by modulating at least one AC carrier signal having a plurality of cyclical repetitions during a given occurrence of said DC component-area-representative signals, said modulating being effected as a function of said two time-overlapping DC component-area-representative signals,
- forming a trace displacement ramp sweep signal having a ramp duration during one occurrence of at least as long as the duration of said composite envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for one complete area-representative signal representation by said image-representative modulated AC carrier signal, for feeding to the other of said two X and Y displacement inputs of a said X-Y coordinate trace display device,
- and forming a component portion of said composite envelope-forming signal from a carrier signal comprising a repetitive signal a portion of which comprises a square wave form.
- 22. A method of image signal formation for use in enabling display of an image, comprising
- forming a composite peak-to-peak outline envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for feeding to one X-Y coordinate input of an X-Y coordinate trace display device having X and Y displacement inputs, from two time-overlapping variable DC component-area-representative signals by modulating at least one AC carrier signal having a plurality of cyclical repetitions during a given occurrence of said DC component-area-representative signals, said modulating being effected as a function of said two time-overlapping DC component-area-representative signals,
- forming a trace displacement ramp sweep signal having a ramp duration during one occurrence of at least as long as the duration of said composite envelope-forming image-representative modulated AC carrier signal for one complete area-representative signal representation by said image-representative modulated AC carrier signal, for feeding to the other of said two X and Y displacement inputs of a said X-Y coordinate trace display device,
- and forming a component portion of said composite envelope-forming signal from a carrier signal comprising a repetitive wave form a portion of which comprises a sine wave form.
