- 6. A method of sharing a common signal line coupled to a first and second agent, the method comprising the steps of:
- initially assigning ownership of the common signal line to the first agent;
- the first agent offering ownership of the common signal line to the second agent over a first signal line; and
- the second agent signaling acceptance of ownership of the common signal line to the first agent over a second signal line.
- 7. The method as set forth in claim 6, further comprising the steps of:
- the second agent using the first signal line to offer ownership to the first agent; and
- the first agent signaling acceptance of ownership of the common signal line to the second agent over the second signal line.
- 8. An apparatus for sharing a common signal line coupled to a first and second agent, the first agent initially having ownership of the common signal line, the apparatus comprising:
- first signal means for the first agent to offer ownership of the common signal line to the second agent; and
- second signal means for the second agent to signal acceptance of the transfer of ownership from the first agent;
- wherein if the second agent has ownership, the second signal means for further offering ownership from the second agent to the first agent.
- 9. The apparatus as set forth in claim 8, wherein:
- after receiving the offer of ownership from the second agent, the first signal means for further signaling acceptance of the transfer of ownership from the second agent to the first agent.
- 10. An apparatus for sharing a common signal line coupled to a first and second agent, the apparatus comprising:
- a first signal line coupling the first and second agents, wherein the first agent offers ownership of the common signal line to the second agent over the first signal line; and
- a second signal line coupling the first and second agents, wherein the second agent signals acceptance of ownership of the common signal line over the second signal line;
- wherein the second agent offers ownership of the common signal line to the first agent over the second signal line.
- 11. The apparatus as set forth in claim 10, wherein:
- the first agent signals acceptance of ownership of the common signal line over the first signal line.
- 12. A system comprising:
- a first agent having an output and an input;
- a second agent having an output and an input;
- a common signal line coupled between the first and second agents and shared by the first and second agents;
- a first signal line coupling the output of the second agent to the input of the first agent;
- a second signal line coupling the output of the first agent to the input of the second agent, wherein the first agent offers ownership of the common signal line to the second agent over the second signal line, and the second agent signals acceptance of ownership of the common signal line to the first agent over the first signal line, and the second agent offers ownership of the common signal line to the first agent over the first signal line.
