Claims
- 1. A method of manufacturing a recycled fibre reinforced resin containing product and comprising the steps of;
- shredding fibre reinforced resin materials into a plurality of fibre reinforced resin pieces of between 2 and 8 inches in length and breadth, and having a thickness substantially equal to no more than about the thickness of said fibre reinforced resin material;
- forming an aggregate granular material with a granule size of between about 1/8 of an inch and 1/2 of an inch,;
- mixing said aggregate granules with said fibre reinforced resin pieces in a dry state without heating wherein the proportions of said aggregate granules, by volume in said dry mix is greater than that of said fibre reinforced resin pieces in a dry mix;
- formulating a room temperature binder in a plastic state, and;
- mixing said binder while in its plastic state with said dry mix of said fibre reinforced resin pieces and said aggregate granules without heating, and permitting the same to harden.
- 2. A method of making a recycled fibre reinforced resin containing product as claimed in claim 1 and wherein the step of formulating said binder comprises step of mixing a first plastic binder component with a second binder component, whereby to initiate an irreversible chemical reaction in said binder, whereby the same progressively changes from said plastic state to a solid state.
- 3. A method of making a recycled fibre reinforced resin containing product as claimed in claim 1 and in which said step of formulating said binder comprises the steps of mixing a dry granular binder material with a liquid to provide a binder formulation in a plastic state, said binder formulation thereafter hardening into a hard mass.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 1 comprises the steps of combining a room temperature flowable non - thermoplastic binder, with said dry mix composition of said pieces of fibre reinforced resin materials and said aggregate materials, said binder being selected from materials having an initially plastic state at room temperatures, with which said dry mix composition of said pieces of fibre reinforced resin materials and said aggregate materials may be combined at room temperatures, and said flowable binder and,
- said room-temperature dry mix composition of said pieces of fibre reinforced resin materials and said aggregate materials being thereafter set at room ambient temperatures into a hard mass, without input of external heating.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 4 and including the step of forming said pieces of recycled fibre reinforced resin materials as shredded portions of larger fibre reinforced resin products, said shredded portions having a length and breadth of between about 2 to 8 inches, and having a thickness equal to about the thickness of said fibre reinforced resin products.
- 6. A method as claimed in claim 5 and including the step on selecting said aggregate materials having a particle size of between about 1/8 of an inch and 1/2 of an inch, and which are present in the dry mixture in a quantity in excess by volume than the volume of said fibre reinforced resin materials.
- 7. A method as claimed in claim 6 and including the step of selecting said aggregate materials are selected from a group of waste materials comprising crushed stone, crushed brick, crushed mortar, crushed masonry, crushed slag, sand blasting materials and crushed glass.
- 8. A method as claimed in claim 7 and including the step of including the step of forming particles having dimensions of between about 1/8 and 1/2 inch.
- 9. A method as claimed in claim 8 and including the step of forming further fibre reinforced resin flakes having dimensions of between about 2 inches and 8 inches.
- 10. A method as claimed in claim 9 and including the step of selecting said aggregate materials from at least two different waste materials.
- 11. A method as claimed in claim 10 and including the step of forming a fibre reinforced resin laminate layer formed of reinforced fibre matting, and resin, laminated on at least one side of said product.
- 12. A method as claimed in claim 11 and including the step of selecting said room temperature flowable binder materials to comprise not more than about 25% by volume of said recycled fibre reinforced resin and aggregate materials.
- 13. A method as claimed in claim 12 and including the step of selecting said dry mix composition in the following proportions by volume:
- pieces of recycled fibre reinforced resin materials of about 20% to about 40%,
- coarse aggregate materials of about 10% to about 30%,
- fine aggregate materials of about 20% to about 40%,
- whereby said dry premix composition is adapted to be subsequently mixed with said binder in proportions of dry mix composition of about 75% to about 90%, and of not more than about 25% of binder.
- 14. A method as claimed in claim 1 and wherein said pieces of recycled fibre reinforced resin materials are formed as shredded portions of larger fibre reinforced resin products, said shredded portions having a length and breadth of between about 2 to 8 inches, and having a thickness equal to about the thickness of said fibre reinforced resin products, and, wherein said aggregate materials have a particle size of between about 1/8 of an inch and 1/2 of an inch, and are present in the dry mixture in a quantity in excess by volume than the volume of said fibre reinforced resin materials, and,
- wherein said aggregate materials are selected from the group of waste materials consisting of crushed stone, crushed brick, crushed mortar, crushed masonry, crushed slag, sand blasting materials and crushed glass.
- 15. Apparatus for manufacturing a recycled fibre reinforced resin containing product and comprising;
- shredder means operable to shred fibre reinforced resin material into a random sized fibre reinforced resin flakes into pieces of between 2 inches and 8 inches in length and breadth;
- grinder means operable to grind some of said fibre reinforced material into granules of between 1/8 and 1/2 inch in size.
- aggregate supply means for supplying granular aggregate material;
- dry mixer means for receiving fibre reinforced resin material and said aggregate granules and intermixing the same in the dry state;
- binder supply means for supplying a room temperature binder in a plastic state without heating;
- binder mixer means for receiving said dry mix of fibre reinforced resin material and said aggregate granules, and said binder in a plastic state, and operable to intermix the same to form a mixture in a plastic state at room temperature without heating, and,
- ejection means for ejecting said material while it is in said plastic state.
- 16. Apparatus as claimed in claim 15 and wherein said binder supply means comprises first component container means, second component container means, component mixing means for receiving said first and second components, and mixing them in predetermined quantities, whereby to maintain a preset predetermined ratio, and means for supplying said two components to said binder mixer means.
- 17. Apparatus as claimed in claim 15 wherein said binder mixer means comprises an elongated mixing chamber, and auger means rotatably mounted within said chamber, and motor means for operating the same, whereby to progressively force said dry mix and said binder in said plastic state, through said chamber, and simultaneously intermix the same into an homogenous mixture.
- 18. Apparatus as claimed in claim 17 wherein said auger means comprises a first generally cylindrical cubical portion, and a second generally flaring tubular portion downstream of said cylindrical tubular portion.
- 19. Apparatus as claimed in claim 18 wherein said auger means further comprises a screw conveyor operable by said motor means in said cylindrical portion, and a shaft having a series of expulsion blades mounted thereon, said blades being mounted at predetermined angles relative to the axis of said shaft, said angles of respective said blades progressively increasing from the upstream to the downstream end of said flaring portion.
- 20. A method as claimed in claim 12 wherein said room temperature flowable binder materials comprises 20% or less by volume of said recycled fibre reinforced resin and aggregate materials.
- 21. A method as claimed in claim 13 wherein said binder is 20% or less of the mixture of dry mix composition and binder.
