Claims
- 1. A method of making an organic electroluminescent device, the method comprising:
solution coating a transfer layer on a donor substrate, the transfer layer comprising a polymerizable, amorphous matrix with a light emitting material disposed in the matrix; selectively thermally transferring a portion of the transfer layer to a receptor; and polymerizing the polymerizable, amorphous matrix of the portion of the transfer layer transferred to the receptor.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising forming a light-to-heat conversion layer on the donor substrate and wherein selectively thermally transferring the transfer layer to the receptor comprises selectively irradiating the light-to-heat conversion layer with imaging radiation and converting the imaging radiation to heat.
- 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising forming at least one additional transfer layer on the substrate and wherein selectively thermally transferring the transfer layer to the receptor comprises selectively thermally transferring the transfer layer and the at least one additional transfer layer to the receptor.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the light emitting material comprises a light emitting polymer.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the light emitting material comprises a phosphorescent material.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the polymerizable, amorphous matrix comprises at least one polymerizable, amorphous matrix-forming compound having an amorphous matrix-forming base structure and at least two polymerizable moieties coupled to the base structure.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the polymerizable moieties are independently selected from vinyl, perfluorovinylether, azide, pentadienyl, alkynyl, (meth)acrylate, phenylalkynyl, isocyanoto, and benzocyclobutane moieties.
- 8. The method of claim 6, wherein the base structure comprises a dendrimer.
- 9. The method of claim 6, wherein the base structure is selected from
- 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the polymerizing step comprises thermally polymerizing the polymerizable, amorphous matrix of the portion of the transfer layer transferred to the receptor.
- 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the transfer layer further comprises a crosslinker and the polymerizing step comprises polymerizing the polymerizable, amorphous matrix and the crosslinker of the portion of the transfer layer transferred to the receptor.
- 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the light emitting material comprises a polymerizable light emitting compound and the polymerizing step comprises polymerizing the polymerizable, amorphous matrix and the polymerizable light emitting compound of the portion of the transfer layer transferred to the receptor.
- 13. A donor sheet comprising
a substrate; and a transfer layer disposed on the substrate, the transfer layer comprising a polymerizable, amorphous matrix and a light emitting material disposed in the matrix, wherein the transfer layer is capable of being selectively thermally transferred from the donor sheet to a proximally located receptor.
- 14. The donor sheet of claim 13, further comprising a light-to-heat conversion layer disposed between the substrate and the transfer layer.
- 15. The donor sheet of claim 13, wherein the light emitting material comprises a light emitting polymer.
- 16. The donor sheet of claim 13, wherein the light emitting material comprises a phosphorescent material.
- 17. The donor sheet of claim 13, wherein the polymerizable, amorphous matrix comprises at least one polymerizable, amorphous matrix-forming compound having an amorphous matrix-forming base structure and at least two polymerizable moieties coupled to the base structure.
- 18. The donor sheet of claim 17, wherein the polymerizable moieties are independently selected from vinyl, perfluorovinylether, azide, pentadienyl, alkynyl, (meth)acrylate, phenylalkynyl, isocyanoto, and benzocyclobutane moieties.
- 19. The donor sheet of claim 17, wherein the base structure comprises a dendrimer.
- 20. The donor sheet of claim 17, wherein the base structure is selected from
- 21. An electroluminescent device, comprising:
a first electrode; a second electrode; and a light emitting layer disposed between the first and second electrodes, the light emitting layer comprising a polymerized organic matrix with a light emitting material disposed in the matrix.
- 22. The electroluminescent device of claim 21, wherein the light emitting material comprises a light emitting compound polymerized in the matrix.
- 23. The electroluminescent device of claim 21, wherein the light emitting material comprises a light emitting polymer.
- 24. The electroluminescent device of claim 21, wherein the light emitting material comprises a phosphorescent material.
