Claims
- 1. A method of installing a printed circuit cable on an actuator arm in a disc drive system which includes bonding a printed circuit cable onto a flat bracket to form a flat PCC assembly, shaping the flat PCC assembly in a predetermined shape to form a shaped PCC assembly, and attaching the shaped PCC assembly to an actuator arm, wherein the flat bracket includes:
- a first bracket section having a plurality of like tabs and one larger tab,
- a central bracket section having a flat portion and a hole in the flat section, and
- a third bracket section having an elongated end piece, and
- wherein the step of shaping the flat PCC assembly in a predetermined shape to form a shaped PCC assembly includes the steps:
- bending the like tabs to form a first bend in a angle toward the printed circuit cable;
- bending the larger tab at said first bend in a direction opposite the like tabs and at an angle greater than the angle used to bend the like tabs;
- bending a region between the hole and the tabs to form a second bend between said first bracket section and said central bracket to form in a direction toward the printed circuit cable at an angle less than 90 degrees;
- bending a region between the hole and the elongated end piece to form a third bend in a direction toward the printed circuit cable at an angle greater than the angle used to form the second bend; and
- bending a region between the elongated end piece and the third bend to form a fourth bend in a direction away from the printed circuit cable at an angle greater than the angle used to form the third bend.
- 2. A method of installing a printed circuit cable on an actuator arm in a disc drive system as in claim 1 wherein the printed circuit cable includes:
- an enlarged portion having bonding pads and conducting cables for the transmission of data signals to and from a read/write head, and
- an extension having bonding pads and conducting cables for the transmission of control signals to and from a coil assembly;
- wherein the step of bonding the printed circuit cable to the flat bracket to form the flat PCC assembly is achieved by bonding the enlarged portion of the printed circuit cable to the flat bracket.
- 3. A method of installing a printed circuit cable on an actuator arm in a disc drive system as in claim 2, further comprising the step:
- inserting the extension into a slot formed by the elongated end piece and the region between the third and fourth bends; and
- bonding the extension to the bracket.
- 4. A method of installing a printed circuit cable on an actuator arm in a disc drive system as in claim 2, further comprising the step:
- prior to forming the fourth bend, bonding the extension onto the elongated end piece.
- 5. A method of installing a printed circuit cable on an actuator arm in a disc drive system as in claim 2 further comprising the steps:
- connecting the bonding pads on the enlarged portion to leads from the read/write head; and
- connecting the bonding pads on the extension to leads from the coil assembly.
- 6. A method of installing a printed circuit cable on an actuator arm in a disc drive system as in claim 2 wherein the step of attaching the shaped PCC assembly into the actuator arm is achieved by fitting an anti-rotation tab comprising said larger tab in the bracket to an aperture in the actuator arm and attaching the portion of the bracket attached to the enlarged portion to the actuator arm.
