Claims
- 1. A method for manufacturing a multi-layered plastic pipe, comprising:forming a hollow plastic core having a desired shape by blow-molding; bringing a plurality of mold segments into a semi-mating condition with a gap existing between any two adjacent mold segments with said hollow plastic core positioned inside a mold cavity defined by said plurality of mold segments, said gap allowing any gas present in said mold cavity to escape therethrough to the exterior but not a molten plastic material; supplying a molten plastic material into said mold cavity while said plurality of mold segments are in said semi-mating condition; and bringing said plurality of mold segments into a final mating condition to thereby form an outer layer integrally on an outer surface of said hollow plastic core from said molten plastic material.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said plurality of mold segments include a pair of first and second mold halves which are formed with a pair of first and second mold grooves on their respective mating surfaces, said first and second mold grooves defining said mold cavity when said first and second mold halves are brought into the semi-mating condition.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein said first mold half is formed with a pair of projections along opposite sides of said first mold groove and said second mold half is formed with a pair of receiving sections for receiving said pair of projections along opposite sides of said second mold groove, wherein when said first and second mold halves are set in said semi-mating condition, said pair of projections are partly received in said pair of receiving sections, respectively, and wherein air can pass through a clearance between each of said projections and an associated one of said receiving sections, but said molten plastic material is substantially prevented from passing through said clearance.
- 4. The method of claim 1 further including the step of providing a plurality of spacers extending radially from the outer surface of the hollow plastic core and being a height extending to said mold segments in the final mating condition of said mold segments and wherein the step of supplying a molten plastic material into said mold cavity includes flowing said molten plastic material around each of said plurality of spacers such that the outer layer has a thickness substantially equal to the height of each of the spacers.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of bringing said plurality of mold segments into said final mating condition comprises bringing said plurality of mold segments into said final mating condition to thereby form said outer layer with a uniform wall thickness integrally on said outer surface of said hollow plastic core.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein:the step of forming said hollow plastic core comprises forming said hollow plastic core having distal end portions; and the step of bringing said plurality of mold segments into said semi-mating condition comprises bringing said plurality of mold segments into said semi-mating condition such that said distal end portions of said hollow plastic core are retained in seat sections of said mold cavity.
- 7. A method for manufacturing a multi-layered plastic pipe, comprising the steps of:forming a tubular hollow plastic core having a desired shape by blow-molding; providing at least one spacer member having a desired shape on said tubular hollow plastic core; placing said tubular hollow plastic core in a mold cavity with said at least one spacer member having a desired shape and having a distal end in contact with a wall surface of said mold cavity and extending from an outer peripheral surface of said tubular hollow plastic core to maintain a gap between said wall surface of said mold cavity and said outer peripheral surface of said tubular hollow plastic core; supplying a molten plastic material into said mold cavity while keeping the shape of said at least one spacer member having a desired shape substantially intact; and applying a compression force to said molten plastic material inside said mold cavity to thereby form in said gap an outer layer from said molten plastic material on the outer peripheral surface of said tubular hollow plastic core integrally therewith and around said at least one spacer member having a desired shape.
- 8. The method of claim 7, wherein:the step of forming said tubular hollow plastic core comprises forming said tubular hollow plastic core having distal end portions; and the step of placing said tubular hollow plastic core in said mold cavity comprises placing said tubular hollow plastic core in said mold cavity such that said distal end portions of said tubular hollow plastic core are retained in seat sections of said mold cavity.
- 9. A method for manufacturing a multi-layered plastic pipe, comprising:forming a hollow plastic core having a desired shape by blow-molding, said shape including a series of spacer members extending outwardly from a periphery of an outer surface of said hollow plastic core, each spacer member having a distal end; bringing a plurality of mold segments into a semi-mating condition with a gap existing between any two adjacent mold segments with said hollow plastic core positioned inside a mold cavity defined by said plurality of mold segments, said gap allowing any gas present in said mold cavity to escape therethrough to the exterior but not a molten plastic material; supplying a molten plastic material into said mold cavity while said plurality of mold segments are in said semi-mating condition; and bringing said plurality of mold segments into a final mating condition wherein the mold segments are in contact with said distal ends to thereby form an outer layer around said spacer members and integrally on an outer surface of said hollow plastic core resultant from the supplying of the molten plastic material.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein the step of bringing said plurality of mold segments into said final mating condition comprises bringing said plurality of mold segments into said final mating condition to thereby form said outer layer with a uniform wall thickness integrally on said outer surface of said hollow plastic core.
- 11. The method of claim 9, wherein:the step of forming said hollow plastic core comprises forming said hollow plastic core having distal end portions; and the step of bringing said plurality of mold segments into said semi-mating condition comprises bringing said plurality of mold segments into said semi-mating condition such that said distal end portions of said hollow plastic core are retained in seat sections of said mold cavity.
- 12. A method for manufacturing a multi-layered plastic pipe, comprising the steps of:forming a tubular hollow plastic core having distal end portions and a desired shape by blow-molding; providing at least one spacer member having a desired shape on said tubular hollow plastic core; placing said tubular hollow plastic core in a mold cavity with said at least one spacer member having a desired shape interposed between a wall surface of said mold cavity and an outer peripheral surface of said tubular hollow plastic core to maintain a gap between said wall surface of said mold cavity and said outer peripheral surface of said tubular hollow plastic core, said tubular hollow plastic core being placed in said mold cavity such that said distal end portions of said tubular hollow plastic core are retained in seat sections of said mold cavity; supplying a molten plastic material into said mold cavity while keeping the shape of said at least one spacer member having a desired shape substantially intact; and applying a compression force to said molten plastic material inside said mold cavity to thereby form in said gap an outer layer from said molten plastic material on the outer peripheral surface of said tubular hollow plastic core integrally therewith and around said at least one spacer member having a desired shape.
