Claims
- 1. A method for processing cheese curds, comprising conveying the curds upon a conveyor belt while stirring the curds without physically damaging them, said stirring comprising stirring with a plurality of agitators comprising blunt prongs.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising draining liquid through the conveyor belt.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the act of stirring comprises revolving said blunt prongs around at least one axis of rotation, the act of revolving being accomplished by operating a motor that is operably connected to the blunt prongs.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the at least one axis of rotation has top and bottom ends, the bottom ends being closer than the top ends to the curds to be stirred.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the at least one axis of rotation intersects the upper surface of the curds being stirred.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the at least one axis of rotation is generally perpendicular to the plane of the upper surface of the curds being stirred.
- 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising applying salt to the curds.
- 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising collecting whey drained from the curds.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising dispensing curds and whey onto a first end of the conveyor belt through an inlet.
- 10. The method of claim 9, further comprising draining whey from the curds through a draining screen positioned under the inlet.
- 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising, forcing air through ductwork, thereby allowing the circulation of air to maintain the curds at a proper temperature.
- 12. The method of claim 1, further comprising depositing the curds from the conveyor belt into an auger trough and then removing the curds from the auger trough.
- 13. The method of claim 12, further comprising stopping the conveyor belt if there is excessive accumulation of curds in the auger trough.
- 14. The method of claim 1, further comprising detecting a moisture level of the curds and adjusting the moisture level if the moisture level does not meet a predetermined level.
- 15. The method of claim 7, wherein the act of applying salt to the curds comprises supplying salt to a salt receptacle, transferring the salt from the salt receptacle to a salt dispenser, and conveying the salt from the salt dispenser to the curds being processed, wherein the salt is conveyed by pumping air through a tube apparatus from the salt dispenser to the curds.
- 16. The method of claim 15, further comprising depositing salt in an upper portion of a chamber member of the salt dispenser and rotating a dispensing wheel that is placed in the chamber to move the salt from above to below the dispensing wheel.
- 17. The method of claim 16, further comprising allowing air and salt to pass through openings in the dispensing wheel.
- 18. The method of claim 16, wherein the dispensing wheel is rotated with a motor.
- 19. The method of claim 18, further comprising, varying the speed of the motor.
- 20. The method of claim 15, further comprising creating a partial vacuum in an opening of a Venturi pickup tee and sucking the salt from the salt dispenser with the partial vacuum into the Venturi pickup tee, wherein the act of pumping includes providing a stream of air that carries the salt from the Venturi pickup tee to the tube apparatus.
