Claims
- 1. A method for the separation and concentration of gases which comprises bringing a mixture of two or more gases into contact with a composite fluorine-containing polyimide membrane comprising a supporting film of a fluorine-containing polyimide resin consisting mainly of repeating units represented by formula ( 1) ##STR4## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of a divalent alicyclic hydrocarbon group, a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group, ##STR5## and thin film of an elastomeric polymer formed on said supporting film; so that a particular component of said mixture may selectively be allowed to pass through said membrane.
- 2. A method as set forth in claim 1, wherein said mixture contains carbon dioxide and methane and sa id carbon dioxide is allowed to pass through, said membrane, while said methane is concentrated.
- 3. A method as set forth in claim 1, wherein said mixture contains steam, and oxygen or nitrogen or air, and said steam is allowed to pass through said membrane, and is concentrated.
- 4. A method as set forth in claim 1, wherein the thin film is formed by coating a solution of an elastomeric polymer in an organic solvent on the supporting film, curing the polymer if required, and drying the coating, wherein the solution contains the elastomeric polymer at a concentration of 0.05 to 10% by weight and is coated so as to form a thin film having a thickness of from 0.01 to 5 microns.
- 5. A method as set forth in claim 4, wherein the solution contains the elastomeric polymer at a concentration of 0.1 to 5% by weight and is coated so as to form a thin film having a thickness of from 0.05 to 1 micron.
- 6. A method for the separation and concentration of gases which comprises bringing a mixture of two or more gases into contact with an asymmetric fluorine-containing polyimide membrane comprising a fluorine-containing polyimide resin consisting mainly of repeating units represented by formula (1) ##STR6## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of a divalent alicyclic hydrocarbon group, a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group, ##STR7## said film having an anisotropic structure, so that a particular component of said mixture may selectively be allowed to pass through said membrane.
- 7. A method as set forth in claim 6, wherein said mixture contains carbon dioxide and methane, and said carbon dioxide is allowed to pass through said membrane, while said methane is concentrated.
- 8. A method as set forth in claim 6, wherein said mixture contains steam, and oxygen or nitrogen or air, and said steam is allowed to pass through said membrane, and is concentrated.
