Claims
- 1. A method of disassembling a can and measuring seam dimensions of the can, the can including a can body and an end member which are coupled to each other by a can-seamed region, the can body having an end opening closed by the end member thereby sealing the interior of the can and the end member including a cover hook, said method comprising the steps of:
- holding the can by gripping the end and a bottom of the can body;
- cutting the outer circumferential edge region of the end member which externally surrounds a folded portion of the can body in the can-seamed region in a circumferential direction of the can;
- separating the cover hook from the end member: and
- measuring the dimensions of the can-seamed region.
- 2. An apparatus for disassembling a seamed region of a can, the can including a can body and an end member which are coupled to each other by the can-seamed region, the can body having an end opening closed by the end member and sealing the interior of the can and the end member including a cover hook, said apparatus comprising:
- can holding means for holding the can by gripping the end member and a bottom of the can body;
- rotating means for rotating the can about its own axis which is held by said can holding means; and
- a cutter disposed so as to orient a cutting blade of the cutter toward the axis of the can, said cutter cutting the outer circumferential edge region of the end member which externally surrounds a folded portion of the can body in the can-seamed region in a circumferential direction of the can and cutting the can-seamed region such that said cover hook is removable from the end member to permit measuring of the dimensions of the can-seamed region.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said can holding means comprises a mechanism abutting against the end of the can and a mechanism abutting against the bottom of the can body, the mechanisms being spaced from each other by an adjustable distance.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said cutter is movable in the radial direction of the can which is held by said can holding means.
- 5. An apparatus for disassembling a seamed region of a can so as to permit inspection of the seamed region of the can, the can including a can body and an end member which are coupled to each other by said can-seamed region, the can body having an end opening closed by the end member and sealing the interior of the can and said can-seamed region including a cover hook, said apparatus comprising:
- a can holder holding the can by gripping the end member and a bottom of the can body;
- a rotating device rotating the can about its own axis which is held by said can holder; and
- a cutter disposed so as to orient a cutting blade of the cutter toward the axis of the can, said cutter cutting the outer circumferential edge region of the end member which externally surrounds a folded portion of the can body in the can-seamed region in a circumferential direction of the can and cutting the can seamed region such that said cover hook is removable from the end member to permit measuring of the can-seamed region.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said can holder comprises a first mechanism abutting against the end member and a second mechanism abutting against the bottom of the can body, the first and second mechanisms being spaced from each other by an adjustable distance.
- 7. An apparatus according to claims 5 or 6, wherein said cutter is movable in the radial direction of the can which is held by the can holder.
