- (2) an ultraviolet initiator, and
- (3) at least one cross-linking promoter.
- 2. A presensitized photolithographic plate in accordance with claim 1 wherein said hydroxy-containing acrylate is 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, a hydroxypropyl acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate or a hydroxypropyl methacrylate.
- 3. A presensitized photolithgraphic plate in accordance with claim 1 wherein said polyoxybutylene has a molecular weight of about 2000 and said polyurethane blocks contain a chain extender.
- 4. A presensitized photolithographic plate in accordance with claim 1 wherein said second acrylate component is partially substituted with bromine.
- 5. A presensitized photolithographic plate in accordance with claim 1 wherein said ultraviolet initiator is phenanthrenequinone in a concentration from about 0.01% to about 5% by total block copolymer weight.
- 6. A presensitized photolithographic plate in accordance with claim 1 wherein said at least one cross-linking promoter is a multifunctional olefin cross-linking agent present in an amount up to about 20% by total block copolymer weight.
- 7. A presensitized photolithographic plate in accordance with claim 1 wherein said backing plate comprises a metal sheet.
- 8. A presensitized photolithographic plate in accordance with claim 7 wherein said metal comprises aluminum.
- 9. A lithographic printing plate, comprising in combination
- (a) a backing plate having a hydrophilic surface; and
- (b) printing ink-adhering, oleophilic image areas firmly adhered to said hydrophilic surface in the form of a cross-linked copolyacrylate/polyurethane block copolymer thin film, said copolyacrylate comprising a copolymer of a hydroxy-containing acrylate and a second acrylate component which comprises one or more esters of a non hydroxy-containing acrylic acid or methacrylic acid or mixture thereof and the polyurethane being formed by reacting a diisocyanate with polyoxybutylene to form a "diisocyanate-capped" prepolymer constituent of the said polyurethane, said film defining said image areas being formed by applying a liquid coating composition containing said block copolymer to said backing plate to form thereon a cross-linkable film, cross-linking said cross-linkable film in the areas corresponding to said desired image areas and then removing the noncross-linked film thereby to expose said hydrophilic surface in nonimage areas.
- 10. A lithographic printing plate in accordance with claim 9 wherein said hydroxy-containing acrylate is 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, a hydroxypropyl acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate or a hydroxypropyl methacrylate.
- 11. A lithographic printing plate in accordance with claim 9 wherein said polyoxybutylene has a molecular weight of about 2000 and said polyurethane blocks contain a chain extender.
- 12. A lithographic printing plate in accordance with claim 9 wherein said second acrylate component is partially substituted with bromine.
- 13. A lithographic printing plate in accordance with claim 9 wherein said backing plate comprises a metal sheet.
- 14. A lithographic printing plate in accordance with claim 13 wherein said metal comprises aluminum.
- 15. A method of preparing a lithographic printing plate, comprising the steps of
- (a) affixing to the hydrophilic surface of a backing plate a coating composition comprising
- (1) a block copolymer formed of blocks of a copolyacrylate and a polyurethane, said copolyacrylate comprising a copolymer of a hydroxy-containing acrylate and a second acrylate component which comprises one or more esters of a non hydroxy-containing acrylic acid or methacrylic acid or mixtures thereof and said polyurethane being formed by reacting a diisocyanate with polyoxybutylene to form a "diisocyanate-capped" prepolymer constituent of the said polyurethane,
- (2) a solvent for said block copolymer,
- (3) an ultraviolet initiator,
- (4) at least one cross-linking promoter, and
- (5) a wetting/adhesion promoting agent;
- (b) producing in said coating oleophilic imaging areas by exposing said film on said backing plate to ultraviolet radiation through a master defining said imaging areas as a transparent pattern to cross-link said film in areas corresponding to said transparent pattern; and
- (c) forming a lithographic printing plate by removing from said backing plate that portion of said coating which is not cross-linked by exposure to ultraviolet radiation thereby exposing said hydrophilic surface as nonimaging areas.
- 16. A method in accordance with claim 15 wherein said coating composition comprises from about 5 to about 10 weight percent of said block copolymer and has a viscosity no greater than that which permits said affixing to be accomplished by flow-coating said composition onto said surface to form said film no greater than about 6.mu. in thickness.
- 17. A method in accordance with claim 15 wherein said step of affixing said film comprises roll coating, flow coating, swirl coating or spraying said composition onto said surface.
- 18. A method in accordance with claim 15 wherein said step of affixing said film comprises wiping it on.
- 19. A method in accordance with claim 15 wherein said hydroxy-containing acrylate is 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, a hydroxypropyl acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate or a hydroxypropyl methacrylate.

- 22. A method in accordance with claim 15 wherein said backing plate comprises a metal sheet.
- 23. A method in accordance with claim 15 wherein said metal comprises aluminum.
