Claims
- 1. In an additive manufacturing process of the type wherein material increments are consolidated to produce a three-dimensional object, a method of improving the uniformity of the consolidated increments, comprising the steps of:
tacking an increment to minimize creep; then fully consolidating that increment to the underlying material.
- 2. In an additive manufacturing process of the type wherein material increments are consolidated using energy from a welding head to produce a three-dimensional object, a method of improving the uniformity of the consolidated increments, comprising the step of:
steering the welding head or the feeding of the increments to ensure that the relative orientation of the contact line of the welding head as defined by the lowest surface that is parallel to the central axis.
- 3. In an additive manufacturing process of the type wherein material increments are consolidated using energy from a welding head to produce a three-dimensional object, a method of improving the uniformity of the consolidated increments, comprising the step of:
placing the increments so as to minimize the ratio of deformed to undeformed material.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the placement is carried out manually.
- 5. The method of claim 3, wherein the placement is carried out automatically.
