Claims
- 1. A method of measuring the limpness of a note comprising the steps of:
- (a) emitting a light so it is incident on the note;
- (b) measuring an amount of the light reflected off of the note; and,
- (c) determining the limpness of the note from the measured portion of the reflected light.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein step (a) comprises emitting an ultraviolet light on the note.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein step (b) further comprises calculating a ratio of incident light to reflected light.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein step (a) comprises emitting a coherent light.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein step (c) comprises determining the limpness of the note from the measured reflected light at one or more locations on the note.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein step (c) comprises determining the limpness of the note from the measured reflected light along with a second method for determining currency limpness to determine a limpness value.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein the second method for determining currency limpness comprises the steps of:
- (a) emitting a light so it is incident on the note;
- (b) measuring an amount of the light transmitted through the note; and,
- (c) determining the limpness of the note from the measured portion of the light.
- 8. The method of claim 6 wherein the second method for determining currency limpness comprises the steps of:
- (a) capturing a first portion of the note;
- (b) deflecting a second portion of the note with a pressure;
- (c) measuring the deflection; and,
- (d) determining the limpness of the note from the measured deflection.
- 9. A method of measuring the limpness of a note comprising the steps of:
- (a) emitting a light so it is incident on the note;
- (b) measuring an amount of the light transmitted through the note; and,
- (c) determining the limpness of the note from the measured portion of the transmitted light.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein step (a) comprises emitting an infrared light on the note.
- 11. The method of claim 9 wherein step (b) further comprises calculating a ratio of emitted light to transmitted light.
- 12. The method of claim 9 wherein step (a) comprises emitting a coherent light.
- 13. The method of claim 9 wherein step (c) comprises determining the limpness of the note measured from the transmitted light at one or more locations on the note.
- 14. The method of claim 9 wherein step (c) comprises determining the limpness of the note from the measured transmitted light along with a second method for determining currency limpness to determine a limpness value.
- 15. The method of claim 14 wherein the second method for determining currency limpness comprises the steps of:
- (a) capturing a first portion of the note;
- (b) deflecting a second portion of the note with a pressure;
- (c) measuring the deflection; and,
- (d) determining the limpness of the note from the measured deflection.
- 16. An apparatus for determining the limpness of a note, said apparatus comprising:
- (a) a light emitting source positioned to emit light on the note under test;
- (b) a light measuring device positioned to detect the light emitted from the light emitting source after said light has interacted with said note; and,
- (c) means coupled to said light measuring device to correlate the detected light with the limpness of said note under test.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein the light measuring device measures light reflected off of the note.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 16 wherein the light measuring device measures light transmitted through the note.
